CCS Friends!

"Recovery is an ongoing process, for both the addict and his or her family. In recovery, there is hope. And hope is a wonderful thing." ~Elevation Behavioral Health

It’s been a busy September rolling out our Su***de Awareness initiative and by now many of our communities are enjoying Homecoming activities. But this week, CCS set aside two additional days of recognition for our valued Addiction Providers and the clients & families they serve.

• National Addiction Professionals Day, Saturday, September 20, 2025
• Substance Use Recovery Carnival Event, Wednesday, September 24, 2025 Recovery Event!

We are grateful for our partnership with Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) for donating their auditorium as a venue for this event. The carnival environment allowed participants to make meaningful Connections, Collaboration, and Choices with our attending community support partners:
• Center for Independence
• DSS Vocational Rehabilitation
• Hope House Sober Living – Huron, SD
• SMART Recovery

A special thank you to our guest speaker, MaryAnne Weston, for sharing “Gary’s Story” and for speaking about addiction to prescription medication, recovery choices, and the impact addiction has on an individual and their families.

87 individuals attended our event, played carnival games, won door prizes, and enjoyed an amazing meal prepared by Choo Choo BBQ!

Be kind to yourself…One Day at A Time!

Hi all!

The Yellow Feather campaign made its way to the Huron SDRA Finals this weekend (Sept. 19th-21st) at The DEX: Dakota Events CompleX! We had great success with sharing the Yellow Feather meaning and Pick-Up man message! Remember who is part of your support system and how you can support someone else. Ask, “Who’s my pick-up man?”

I’m excited to report that our amazing volunteers had a fun and successful time! Without them, we would not have been able to spread our message so thank you!

We’re officially wrapping up the rodeo season until 206! I hope to see you March 2026 for our next rodeo event! Keep an eye out for more prevention news. Next up is our October Newsletter!

Today's theme: Purpose

“A sense of meaning can increase and improve recovery efforts!”

Check in with your loved ones! Asking others what matters to them and gives their life meaning is a reminder that they matter. Starting the conversation or sharing your own shows others that not only is recovery possible, but it is also a way to find their own purpose! This week is a reminder that EVERYONE is important.

Today's theme: Community

“Building a social network and a sense of community supports recovery!”

Nobody needs to be alone in recovery. Often individuals feel isolated and judged throughout their journey due to the previous negative labels they were characterized by. Finding a support network can strengthen individuals’ motivation. Reminding others that it’s okay to ask for help is a great first foundational step to creating a supportive network.

“Recovery is strengthened in a safe and supportive environment!”

According to SAMHSA, in America, 50.2 million adults consider themselves in recovery. Recovery starts in a safe place that heals. We can support others by creating an environment that people feel respected, supported, and safe in!

Keep an eye out the next couple of days for our Week 3 theme! Here's a hint: surround yourself with those who heal.
