Great engagement with the next generation of family physicians in West Virginia!
Drs. Kimberly Becher and Joanna Bailey had the opportunity to connect with FMIG students and Family Medicine residents at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine during a sponsored lunch session yesterday. Learners from across the state were in attendance, including many incoming Family Medicine residents representing programs statewide.
Dr. Becher (Community Care of West Virginia, Inc.) and Dr. Bailey (Tug River Health Association) led a timely and impactful discussion on the most recent legislative session, reinforcing that membership matters, advocacy matters, and physician voices matter. They also highlighted opportunities for research, mentorship, and professional growth through the WVAFP.
The conversation continued into the evening with a dinner focused on deeper engagement and involvement in WVAFP – helping build a strong, connected pipeline of physician leaders for our state.
A special thank you to Jennifer Plymale, Associate Dean of the Center for Rural Health at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health, for sponsoring the lunch and supporting this important work.
And a shout out to Dr. Adam Franks, Vice Dean for Rural Health and Chair of the Department of Family & Community Health (Marshall Family Medicine), for his continued leadership and commitment to training the future of Family Medicine in West Virginia.
