Most women don’t lose their power in birth because something catastrophic happens.
They lose it when they feel disoriented.
When the room gets louder or chaotic.
When decisions start moving quickly.
When “we usually…” starts sounding like “you have to…”
Birth runs on hormones.
And hormones respond to safety.
When consent feels rushed, the body tightens.
When the body tightens, labor resists.
When labor resists, more pressure gets applied.
It becomes a loop.
This isn’t about arguing with providers.
It’s about understanding the environment you’re walking into.
Knowing:
• what is truly urgent vs. what is preference
• how to slow down a fast conversation
• how language shapes what gets documented
• how to stay grounded when energy shifts
You are allowed to pause.
You are allowed to ask for clarity.
An oriented nervous system is one of the most powerful things you can bring into a birth room.
And that changes the entire experience.
