I came home from my office one evening to find the leaves of my peace lily drooping. This particular plant doesn’t seem to follow a watering schedule like the others do. She needs what she needs when she needs it. What’s interesting though, is it’s still really easy to care for her because she lets me know when she needs something. And, I am there to notice and respond. I pour into her, and she perks up.
If you experienced emotional childhood neglect, you may not have had that experience. You may have been made to feel like your needs and emotions were too much…Not always purposefully, but it may still have happened.
If so, part of your healing may include learning that it is possible to cultivate safe, reciprocal relationships with people who are willing and ready to pour into you. This is your invitation to begin to be open to the idea that it is safe to tell them that you need it. 🪴
