Licensed Addictions Counselor - LAC/LMAC Required Education Level - Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's
Under the clinical supervision of the Executive Director &/or Program Director, the LAC/LMAC is responsible for the programs and services provided to the program participants served. Counselors shall operate in accordance with the policies and procedures determined by the Board of Directors and as implemented by his/her supervisor(s) and all parties shall abide by all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Counselors will need to specifically abide by the Kansas Department of Aging & Disability Services, Community Services & Programs Division standards (standards for license/certification of alcohol & other drug abuse treatment programs). The duties of this position include curriculum implementation, psycho-educational presentations, individual counseling, group counseling, case management activities and all related paperwork demands.
Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain communication with referral sources
Dialogue with local referral sources to keep them apprised of their client’s performance in treatment when requested. Create/design the treatment plans for the clients. Provide group/individual/family counseling for clients in outpatient treatment setting. Provide individual counseling for clients and assist in the identification and resolution of problems, behaviors, or cognition which prevent or interfere with clients reaching of their treatment goals or positive outcomes. Maintain treatment related paperwork such as treatment plans, evaluations, discharge summaries, program evaluation forms, etc. Must attend and participate in all staff meetings. Provide psycho-educational groups and learning experiences with a focus on addiction related topics, stress management, nutrition, criminal thinking, etc. Assist in the collection of client fees
Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by their immediate supervisors
Perform onsite substance abuse screenings, both urine and saliva.
Qualifications: Graduate of a four-year accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, substance abuse counseling or a closely related field is required. Master’s degree matching one of the aforementioned professions is preferred or equivalent employment resulting in LAC/LMAC with KsBSRB. Be a licensed substance abuse counselor in the State of Kansas. Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Licensed Master Addiction Counselor (LMAC) or Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) required. Certification to deliver SB123 services and assessments desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be adaptable to change and have effective organizational skills. Must be able to organize and follow through on multiple tasks. Display consistent, good judgement and decision-making skills
Knowledge in the disease of addiction and the various modes of treatment
Knowledge of the criminal mindset and persons with anti-social, personality disorder(s). Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the chemically dependent client. Must be able to pass security check.
Employees who have been diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.
Must have proficient computer skills
Since the science of addiction is rapidly evolving counseling staff must have a thorough knowledge of the disease of addiction and the various modes of treatment. Must be able to adapt to and implement changing treatment models and techniques Benefits include accrued/paid vacation and sick/personal leave. No insurance provided by the company.
