Mission Moment: Every Second Counts

What began as a medical emergency quickly became a powerful story of teamwork, precision, and lifesaving care. After a patient arrived at our Emergency Department with a critically high stroke score, the response was immediate:

Within 1 minute – Assessed by our ED physician
Within 3 minutes – In imaging
Within 10 minutes – CT completed and read

Recognizing the need for advanced care, our team coordinated a rapid transfer to a nearby Comprehensive Stroke Center facility. Just 18 minutes after the transfer call, EMS had the patient en route.

Thanks to the quick actions of Reno County EMS, our ED, and Radiology teams, what could have been a life-altering stroke resulted in a full neurological recovery and the patient walking out of the hospital only four days later —proof that seconds truly matter.

Today, we proudly recognize the team members involved with a Mission Moment Award for their exceptional teamwork and dedication to patient care. Their swift response turned a moment of crisis into one of healing and hope.

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center has received the 2025 Silver Rural Stroke Award through the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® program.

Rural Get With The Guidelines Awards recognize hospitals that work in rural areas. These awards are available to any Get With The Guidelines–Stroke, Heart Failure, or Coronary Artery Disease hospital located within a rural geography, as defined by RUCA codes. The measures are focused on a unique set of performance metrics related to the rural setting.
