Reno County EMS

Reno County EMS Reno County EMS is an Advance Life Support ambulance service serving the citizens of Hutchinson and Our three teams are on a 24 hours on, 48 hours off rotation.

Reno County EMS is a county service managed, under contract, by Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Reno County EMS is licensed as a ground ambulance service by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services. All ambulances that respond to your location will be staffed as an Advanced Life Support unit. This truly makes us a Mobile Intensive Care Unit, basically an ICU on wheels! We provide emergency response in Hutchinson as well as the majority of Reno County. Support via tandem response throughout the remainder of the county is done upon request from outlying services. We also provided emergent and non-emergent transfers from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to other medical facilities and provide many hours of standby for sporting events and the Kansas State Fair. Vehicle 44 Has Arrived!

Our newest ambulance, Vehicle 44, was delivered this afternoon by ARV and will be placed into service within the next two weeks. This addition strengthens our fleet and ensures we continue providing reliable, high-quality emergency care to our community.

🏥 Sneak Peek: Downtown Station 2

The final three photos offer a behind-the-scenes look as our crews test-fit equipment inside the new downtown station. Station 2 will house two staffed ambulances, significantly improving response times and service coverage across the area.

We’re excited to be getting closer to opening day. Move-in details and public open house information will be announced soon — stay tuned!

Happy Valentine’s Day from your favorite heart heroes ❤️🚑

Today our crews are spreading a little extra love (and a reminder to take care of yours 💓). You may notice something a little different about us this month (hint: it’s the red shirts), stay tuned for more information about those!

Spread the love (and the heart health awareness ;)) today and every day! ❤️

EMS is more than just a job.. it’s a family, no matter who you work for. One you choose for yourself (or sometimes one that’s chosen for you once you enter this field 😉).

Today, we are assisting our neighbors at Haven Community EMS so their team can attend the funeral of their director’s wife—someone who, by proxy, is one of their own.

That director is also one of ours, and we are proud to support him and their entire agency during this difficult time.

This is what mutual aid and community look like. So whether you’re in Hutchinson, Haven, or somewhere in between.. we are here for you, no matter what. 💙🚑

Crews: *accomplish (previously scheduled) CEVO class*
Mother Nature: "Cute, here's a winter storm for you to prove your skills" 😅❄️

In a totally impressive and coincidental fashion, this week, crews took time to attend our annual CEVO course taught by Division Chief Jeramie Schmidt. This course, known as Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator, focuses on defensive driving in an emergency vehicle (such as 🚑). CEVO training helps crews (also known as ambulance drivers 😜) develop safe and effective driving habits under pressure. From hazard awareness (including the snowmageddon we are currently experiencing) and mitigation to vehicle checks and crash prevention, crews learn necessary skills and tricks to protect themselves, patients, and others with confidence behind the wheel.

Kansas weather just turned the classroom into a real-world field lab.

Slowing down, increasing space, and arriving safely always beats arriving fast. We’ll get there when we get there. 🚑❄️

Stay safe!

🚨TODAY🚨IS🚨THE🚨DAY🚨

❄️❄️❄️❄️

Please heed all warnings regarding cold-weather exposure and DRIVING. While it currently feels like the artic tundra outside, there is no snow (until about 7pm tonight), so PLEASE make sure you have what you need for the weekend so you do not have to get out. I'm looking at you, able-bodied people, children, siblings, neighbors, other relatives, help ya loved ones (whether by choice or forced) out!

Who is falling today? SNOW, NOT YOU! So, once you see the white stuff, all trash cans should stay stranded in their current locations, and mail should stay in the mailbox until you (or your more sure-footed loved one) can safely retrieve it.

Emergency operations will still be available, as always, but please be patient as we also have to ensure our crew's and the public's safety while operating our vehicles in adverse conditions.

STAY SAFE, WARM, AND WEATHER AWARE RENO COUNTY 💙🚑❄️

🚗 It’s happening… AGAIN! However, this time for real, so we thought we would reiterate our previous post because, honestly, it's pretty solid advice.

So.. ONCE AGAIN, before you channel your inner NASCAR driver, here's a friendly reminder from your favorites at Reno Co EMS:
• Slow down
• Increase following distance
• Your vehicle does not handle “just fine in the snow.” 😉
• Tell someone, anyone, your travel plans/route/ETA

Additionally, because Mother Nature is putting us in the deep freeze:
• DRESS IN LAYERS
• Stay weather aware
• Maybe just stay inside all weekend :)

Also, please remind your parents, grandparents, and that one stubborn neighbor that the mail can wait, the trash cans don’t need rescued immediately, and shoveling snow at 6 a.m. (or really anytime) is not a competitive sport.
Don't get us wrong, we love seeing you, but preferably not from the side of the road (or the end of the driveway). Stay safe out there! 💙🚑

🎒✏️ Back to school… EMS edition! 🚑

That means new faces on the truck (plus a couple familiar ones) running the streets as paramedic students. Over the next couple months, you may see an extra person on an ambulance who is dressed a little differently than we are. These are students who have completed a rigorous paramedic program and are at the end of their schooling, putting their hard earned knowledge (obtained by drinking from a firehose, or at least that's how it *lovingly* feels) to the test in the real world! Now, paramedic students are not new to us, but we felt it was time to finally explain their presence.

We also have a couple more familiar faces who are taking the next step in their career by attending classes for AEMT and will make their debut on trucks in the coming months as well.

The future of EMS is built on education, mentorship, and dedication and we are extremely proud of our crews for choosing a path of growth that reflects that (even when it means exams and extra caffeine ☕). We are also pleased to be a trusted partner with these schools, helping students who are not our employees (at least not yet 😉) with the real-world portion of the program! We have some incredible providers who volunteer to precept these students and we appreciate their hard work and dedication to these students and their learning!

SO.. Be nice— they’re tired AND studying AND working AND adulting AND.... 😉

❄️🚗 It’s happening… 1–3 inches of snow is on the way (don't come for us on the likelihood of accumulation, we're just being proactive!)!

BUT, before you channel your inner NASCAR driver, here's a friendly reminder from your favorites at Reno Co EMS:

Don’t drop the ball. ⬇️
Just watch the ball drop. 🪩🎉

Because dropped balls lead to:
🍾 Bad decisions
🚗 Bad driving
🚑 Very familiar faces

Do 2026 you a favor:
✔️ Plan a sober ride
✔️ Slow it down
✔️ Stay warm

We’ll be working either way, but maybe don’t let your first phone call of 2026 be to 911 (we’re honored, but staying safe is a much cooler call 😎).

We believe in you, 2026 is your year! Drop 🚑 in the comments if you don’t plan on meeting us tonight 👀🚑

Have a great and safe NYE, Reno County! We’re always here if you need us (and even if you don’t 😉). 🫶🏼
