Louis pharmacist, Michael Busch. Busch’s mission was to bring to his community a pharmacy that was both dedicated to personalized service and managed by the pharmacist. Busch’s pharmacist-run business model allowed him the freedom he needed to grow his business and simultaneously focus on the needs of his customers. It quickly proved successful. In 1970, Busch established Medicine Shoppe International, Inc. (MSI), allowing him to extend franchise-ownership opportunities to other customer-friendly, entrepreneurial pharmacists and independent investors. In 1971, the first franchised Medicine Shoppe pharmacy opened. Over the years, MSI continued to grow, adding health screenings, medication therapy management, Specialized Care Centers and other unique services. In 1991, the company expanded internationally with its first master franchise in Taiwan. In 1995, Cardinal Health, acquired MSI. In 2003, MSI acquired Medicap Pharmacies Incorporated, further expanding the brand’s reach. Today, MSI continues to grow and focus on the needs of the customer by offering a full line of over-the-counter products, important health screenings, and the personal care and attention of a knowledgeable pharmacist who always takes the time to get to know his or her customers.
