As a professional counselor, Dr. Catie Greene works to help individuals increase their authenticity in how they show up for themselves and others and views the therapeutic relationship as an important vehicle for such growth.

Dr. Catie Green is also an educator and trainer in areas of counseling, supervision, diversity & social justice who will be teaching our LGBTQ+ course: "Exploring "Coming Out": A Comprehensive Training for Social Workers to Assist Sexual Expansive Communities."

Dr. Catie Greene earned a Masters in Community Mental Health Counseling at St. Bonaventure University and later completed a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at The College of William & Mary with concentrations in college student development and addictions counseling.

Trainer Spotlight: Dr. Gillian Berry, MSW, LICSW, LCSW-C

When Dr. Gillian Berry first entered the social work profession, over 35 years ago, her internship supervisor stated that they should be aiming to “do themselves out of a job”. This interpretation of social work values has inspired this pop-up series of social work CE trainings. The theme Valuing Our Values means recognizing the importance and significance of social work principles and beliefs that guide professional practice.

The first session of our pop-up social worker CE training event is around the corner! We have a total of 8 sessions happening between May 22nd and June 10th and we’re excited to tell you about them!

First up, "Navigating Chaos with Ethical Clarity: Relevance of NASW Code of Ethics" will provide insight into the importance of ethical behavior in the social work profession. Then, "Passing the Social Work License Exam: Strategies and Skills for Success" will give you the tools and techniques you need to ace the exam and take your career to the next level.

Next, "Exploring 'Coming Out': A Comprehensive Training for Social Workers" will provide a safe and inclusive space for social workers to learn about the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and gain insight into how to best support them. According to a recent article in The Conversation (linked below), anxiety and depression are on the rise for Black social workers - stemming from the challenges we all have encountered since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic - and it's time we start talking about it.

The article highlights the fact that Black social workers were hit especially hard by the pandemic, as they navigated the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism. It's not surprising that the stress of supporting vulnerable populations while dealing with their own trauma took a toll on their mental health.

As a community, we need to show up for our Black social worker colleagues and friends. We need to acknowledge their struggles, listen to their stories, and provide support in any way we can. We need to advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and justice in the workplace and beyond.

We encourage everyone to read this article and educate themselves on the unique challenges facing Black social workers. Let's work together to create a more compassionate and supportive world for all social workers.
