We are so grateful to have been chosen by The EDGE for their Month of Giving! If you haven't check them out yet, make sure to do so! They have amazing facilities and offer first class sports programs and lessons including pickelball, tennis, aquatics, conditioning, and so much more!

Green Mountain Adaptive Sports (GMAS) was chosen for our 5th Month of Giving spotlight in 2026 by our Personal Training Team!

GMAS provides access to sports and recreational activities like swimming, skiing, and indoor rock climbing for people in Vermont living with a disability. Their programs are founded on the belief that every body can play, and through play, people with disabilities can build independence as well as physical and mental well-being.

Follow along this month as we share more about GMAS, ways to get involved, and their impact on our communities.

Learning how to swim IS challenging, and for kids like Alex who are learning to swim in our adaptive program, it is also very rewarding to get to the good part where… YOU CAN DO IT!

“First I found it hard to swim but now I swim very well. I practiced swimming every day and soon I could swim great. At first I felt nervous. I kept practicing, it’s amazing knowing how to swim.”

We offer scholarships for Vermonters with disabilities to receive swimming lessons by trained professionals at four pools in Vermont. Check out the link below for more details, and to apply for a scholarship to receive free lessons at the location of your choice.

We are so proud of, and wish to congratulate Kim Bean, a GMAS Board member and avid mountain biker involved in most adaptive events in the East for getting her BICP Adaptive Mountain Bike Level 2 Certification this week at the 2026 Move United Sport Conference on the Cape.

This multi-day comprehensive training course is designed to strengthen both riding ability and coaching techniques, and covers everything from biomechanics and stability to teaching strategy, communication, and risk management. Through interactive modules, participants learn how to break down skills, instruct adaptive riders effectively, and create safe, supportive learning environments. Thanks to our friends at Spaulding Adaptive Sports Centers and to Terry Downey for inviting Kim to join the training! 🙏

We look forward to riding with Kim and other incredible coaches at the Stowe Adaptive Mountain Bike Weekend on August 21-23, and hope to see you there. Registration is open, link below.

The Stowe Pond Skim and Spring Bash was a total blast this weekend! The GMAS team came out in full force, hosting a breakfast, selling raffle tickets, and even plunging in the freezing cold water! Board member John Chudzik going face first on his cross country skis was a crowd pleaser… but monoskiers Mike Olsen and Julio Cecenas supported by Beau Galloway stole the show, closely followed by Nechie Fischman hitching a ride on the patrol’s snowmobile!
Many thanks to ALL who made this possible and such a great success — and to our friends at !

We can’t wait to be back next year!

Photos and videos by Cathy Webster, Amy Marshall, Pascale Savard and Kim Bean. More to come!
