CAUTIONARY FINDINGS FOR PARENTS OF PRETEENS:
A study published today in JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association,
followed over 6,500 children ages 9 to 13 to see how changes in their social media use affected thinking and learning skills two years later. Researchers found that kids who spent more time on social media—especially those whose use rose quickly—scored lower on tests of reading, memory, and vocabulary compared with those who rarely used it. The study cannot prove that social media causes lower academic performance, but it raises concerns about how early and how much young teens use these platforms
