Today marks the 81st anniversary of D-Day June 6, 1944, a day that changed the course of history.

These rare color photographs breathe life into a moment that lives in black and white in most of our memories. They remind us that these were young men with faces, fears, and families, not just names in textbooks or statues on shorelines.

On the beaches of Normandy, under grey skies and relentless fire, they carried the weight of the free world. Many never returned home. Those who did were forever changed.

We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the terrible cost of war. May we honor them not just in words, but in how we live, striving for peace, protecting freedom, and never forgetting the price they paid.

Corpsman’s Founder and USMC Veteran Sonny Caliendo ran into a few Sailors from the while on shore leave in Boston. We heard the conversation

Happy International Women’s Day. We salute all women and want to feature a special woman of valor today.

Shannon Kent was a highly respected U.S. Navy cryptologic technician and a Navy senior chief petty officer who worked with special operations forces, including SEAL teams, throughout her distinguished career. She played a critical role in the intelligence community, serving as a linguist and cryptologist who specialized in counterterrorism and intelligence gathering.

Kent’s career was marked by a dedication to operations targeting terrorist networks, including her work in combating ISIS. She was deployed multiple times to various combat zones, including Iraq and Syria, where she provided vital intelligence that helped shape special operations missions. Known for her linguistic abilities, Kent spoke several languages, including Arabic, and her expertise was instrumental in helping identify and track high-value terrorist targets.

Tragically, Shannon Kent was killed in action on January 16, 2019, in a su***de bombing in Manbij, Syria. At the time, she was conducting intelligence operations in support of U.S. Special Operations Command. Her death was widely mourned, and she is remembered as a pioneer and a trailblazer in her field, being one of the few women to operate at such high levels within special operations.

In addition to her military achievements, Kent was a mother of two and was known for balancing her demanding military career with her personal life. Her sacrifice and service continue to be honored by her colleagues and the broader military community.

Gone but never forgotten. 🇺🇸
