This isn’t good Boise County and friends! The Boise basin is only at 56%. Please make sure that your property is fire wise because we could have a bad fire season. When you’re talking fire wise, I think of the old saying “it takes a village“. That means you should get together with your neighbors about forewising the Neighbourhood. I also can’t stress enough that you have a bug out plan in case of a fire! Know what you want to take with you on short notice, and know where it’s at. Have a plan for your animals as well. Don’t forget about your special needs and older neighbors who may need help.

Here is IDWR's final snowpack map of the year, displaying Annual Peak Snowpack. Annual Peak Snowpack numbers show the peak SWE measure a basin marked throughout the water year in relation to the basin's median peak SWE measure over the basin's period of record.

Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) is a common snowpack measurement representing the amount of water contained within snowpack. Maps are posted weekly from January through early April. Check here for the latest map: https://idwr.idaho.gov/.../water.../snow-water-equivalency/

Thank you to the Idaho Snow Survey program and USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service for providing the data for these maps. For more information about the Idaho Snow Survey visit https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/idaho/snow-survey

Hello Boise County and Friends! It's that time of year when the U.S. Forest Service - Boise National Forest will begin doing their controlled burns. Please follow the link in the post to see what areas they will be working. If you see smoke outside of these areas, be sure to report them to Boise County Dispatch. If you're not sure, it's better to be safe than sorry. With the lack of snow this winter, it's been reported that this year could be a bad year for forest fires. Make sure that your property is free from ground fuels and low laying branches. Be safe Boise County and Friends!!

We expect to begin prescribed fire operations in late March, pending required approvals. Work will continue through the spring as weather and conditions allow.

Prescribed fire is an important component of our Active Forest Management that helps reduce overgrown vegetation and supports safer communities by lowering the risk of severe wildfires.

See our news release with planned prescribed fire locations at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/boise/newsroom/releases/boise-national-forest-begin-prescribed-fires-1

Use caution if you plan on traveling between Boise and Twin Falls on Saturday. If you have family or friends who will be taking this route, let them know. It looks that the winds will start up in the afternoon to evening so leave in the morning if possible.

Strong west winds are still forecast for southern Idaho Saturday afternoon/evening, especially between Boise and Twin Falls and south to the Nevada border. Travel on north/south roads in these areas will be especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles due to cross winds. We note that strong gusts may also occur in northern areas near heavy showers along a cold front, which may bring strong winds down from aloft.

Good information here on how high winds can start avalanches.

Good information here on how high winds can start avalanches.

The avalanche danger will rise to CONSIDERABLE throughout the day. Strong to extreme winds combined with 2-6” of snowfall will rapidly build sensitive slabs of snow. Triggering a large avalanche is likely by the end of the day. Avoid wind-loaded slopes and don’t forget about the buried persistent weak layers that could result in avalanches breaking more widely than expected. Building in larger margins for error is a great way to play it safe during today’s changing conditions.

Have to share this! This trooper is a true hero! More often than not, CPR events are unsuccessful. I have been involved in five unsuccessful CPR events so I'm 0 - 5. The sooner you can start quality CPR the better chance you have of saving a life. That's why it's so important to get certified in CPR and stay current! Ambulances get there as soon as they can but if CPR is initiated as soon as possible, the better chance the patient has for survival.

On March 8th, 2026, a Boise County Deputy observed a white sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles illegally on Highway 21 just south of Idaho City. As the Deputy activated his emergency lights to stop the sedan for reckless driving, it immediately accelerated taking off at more than double the posted speed limit.

Another Boise County Deputy was able to get setup with spike strips in the Robie Creek area of Highway 21 and successfully spiked multiple tires of the sedan. The sedan came to a stop near milepost 20.

With K9 Sage on scene, multiple illegal controlled substances were located inside the car to include methamphetamine.

Both occupants of the sedan were juveniles. As such, their names will not be released.

The driver was taken to a juvenile detention center for felony eluding, felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor injury to child.

This arrest demonstrates our commitment to addressing reckless driving on our highways and drug possession that endangers our community, our children, and the livelihood of citizens within Boise County. Getting dangerous drugs, such as methamphetamine, off our streets aids in the reduction of other crimes within Boise County.

See something, say something. If you have information on drug activity or any criminal activity, you can submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Idaho at www.343cops.com
