When mental illness is present, the potential for crisis exists, and when a crisis occurs, there isn’t always time to search for answers. If your loved one experiences a mental health crisis, you’ll want to be prepared in advance.

Check out this article from NAMI on What to Do in a Crisis.

Creating a plan with loved ones, caretakers, and doctors, and knowing phone numbers and addresses for local resources and authorities, such as CIT officers and Crisis Centers, can make all the difference!

A crisis might mean getting in trouble with the law or injuring yourself accidentally or on purpose. It’s also a crisis situation if you find yourself developing a plan to take your own life or are considering hurting others.

Join us at this year’s RHS Annual Mental Health Symposium!
We are excited to listen and learn from this year’s wonderful speakers, on a topic so important to our community.

✨😀🎤We are proud to announce our 22nd Annual Mental Health Symposium, taking place on May 9, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

This year’s theme is “Holding Space for Empathy and Compassion in Our Community," and will focus on local mental and behavioral health services, including crisis intervention, grief counseling, support groups, multicultural advocacy, and care for both youth and the elderly. At the heart of these services is the foundation of empathy and compassion, essential to creating a safe, connected space for individuals to heal and thrive.

The event will be held at the Bennion Student Union Building in Idaho Falls, and will feature a range of sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities.

While walk-ins are welcome, early registration is encouraged. The cost for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) is $55, and the symposium is free for attendees who do not require CEUs. The Behavioral Health Crisis Center of East Idaho (BHCC) is our region's only State Funded Community Crisis Center. Established by Governor Otter and continues to be supported by Governor Little and legislators, we have assisted over 8,800 patrons and have had over 26K admissions over the last 10 years. We are provided staffing and administration through Badger Inc., in association with Rehabilitative Health Services. This collaboration commitment has allowed the BHCC to thrive and offer our community 24/7 walk-in services for those experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis. These services include a non-judgmental and safe environment, integrated strength-based assessments, case management assistance, and referrals to other appropriate services.

Our goal has been to close the behavioral healthcare gap by linking people to the local services they need and preventing emergency room visits and incarcerations, and we will continue this mission in the new year.
