A C677T mutation of MTHFR reduces the enzymatic activity by approximately 35% per T allele, and an A1298C mutation reduces the enzymatic activity by approximately 20 %per C allele.
A new study examined four levels of MTHFR function and ASD severity. They found that lower MTHFR activity was associated with increased severity of ASD symptoms. Exploring the enzymatic activity of MTHFR may be a beneficial biomarker for early screening and tailoring targeted interventions during early neurodevelopment.
HOWEVER, you should NEVER TREAT THE GENE by throwing methylfolate at a person with a MTHFR mutation! It's essential to support the individual and their personal biochemistry to optimize gene expression!! ๐ฒ
As one who has MTHFR mutations and who has been teaching this work for two decades, I've seen so many people crash and burn when they think adding methylfolate (or methylated B vits) is the answer! ๐

Dr. Buerger established a highly successful private family practice in Northern California from 1992 until 2009. In February of 2010, she brought her expertise to Southeastern Idaho with a clinic in Ammon, Idaho specializing in Neurodevelopmental Disorders and healthy pregnancies.
She is part of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Associationโs (ICPA) seminar program where she offers a course on Neurosensory Integration and Sensory Processing Disorder. Due to the large demand, she now offers advanced courses on the topic for the Doctor of Chiropractic interested in caring for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and founded the Intersect4kids certification program for The Care and Management of Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
That program has adapted into what is now Intersect4Life.
