A startup, family owned business, Club Apple opened it

s doors to the public in the spring of 1986 housed in the historic Rogers Hotel of downtown Idaho Falls. The original name of the club was the Downtown Athletic Club (DAC) and the original founders of DAC were Steve and Kathy Vucovich and Steve's parents, Nick and Marilyn. and consisted of 13 pieces of circuit weights, 5 pieces of cardio equipment, a basement aerobic studio, nursery, and a service staff of 7 employees. In 1990, the downtown location was closed and DAC expanded to a larger location on the West side of the city that had previously been occupied by several unsuccessful fitness facilities. DAC continued to grow its membership base and amenities over the next seven years to the point of requiring another expansion. The Idaho Falls Health and Racquet Club (the city's oldest and largest multi-purpose health club) became available for purchase in 1997. They were located on the east side of town and eventually a deal was struck for takeover and it became Apple Athletic Club. In 2001, the owners of Club Apple were presented with a partnership proposal, which culminated into the current state-of-the-art facility we have today. The 60,000 square foot building was completed in April of 2002 and a complete remodel of our auxiliary indoor tennis facility was completed in the winter of 2004. Club Apple can boast that it is the largest privately owned health club in Idaho. It also is blessed with the largest array of group exercise classes, personal trainers and knowledge in the state. While Club Apple has enjoyed many years of success in this community, it would not have been possible without the hard work of an extremely dedicated staff, which now numbers over 200 employees. Without a doubt, Club Apple can claim that its customer service staff is also truly state-of-the-art. I would encourage anyone not a member of Club Apple to come and experience the staff and facilities of one of this city's main assets! Yours in Good Health,

Steve Vucovich, general manager/partner

Lose the fat. Keep the metabolism-boosting muscle. Here's how.

Ozempic. Wegovy. Mounjaro. Zepbound. These GLP-1 drugs work for a very simple reason: they crush appetite.

But there's a problem. A portion—and often a big portion--of that weight isn't fat. It's muscle – your metabolic engine.

Lost muscle = daily calorie burn drop. The same amount of food that once maintained your weight can now cause you to gain it.
Lost muscle = strength loss. You weigh less, but you function worse.
Lost muscle = skinny-fat look. Weight loss outpaces muscle preservation.

The simple science: When calories drop sharply, your body still needs to meet its basic energy and amino acid needs. If protein is low, it turns to endogenous sources, your own tissue. Muscle is the largest reservoir of aminos, so it gets "eaten up" through increased muscle protein breakdown and reduced muscle protein synthesis (MPS).

Resistance training and adequate protein intake are mandatory for GLP-1 users and anyone on a strict diet. …

Two GLP-1 problems:

GLP-1 causes you to eat less frequently, have smaller portions, and get less protein per meal. That creates two problems.

First, you don't hit the leucine threshold consistently. That's the minimum amount of leucine needed in a meal to trigger muscle protein synthesis. MPS isn't "on" all day. It's triggered in pulses. If a meal doesn't provide enough leucine, you get a weak or nonexistent anabolic signal.

Second, there's typically long gaps between meals. Go for 5-8 hours between your already small meals, and it creates a net catabolic window. That's a period where your body breaks down more muscle than it's building or even maintaining.
