Physical Therapy Tip: Consistency Is Key!

If you’ve ever started physical therapy and felt tempted to skip a session (or two), you’re not alone. But here’s the truth: consistency is one of the most important factors in your recovery. Whether you’re healing from surgery, an injury, or managing chronic pain, your body needs regular movement, reinforcement, and retraining to truly heal.

Think of it like learning a new skill—skipping practice slows your progress. The same goes for your muscles and joints!

✅ Stick to your prescribed plan
✅ Do your home exercises (yes, even on the “meh” days)
✅ Trust the process—it’s not always linear, but it is worth it

Struggling with constipation?
You're not alone — and the solution might be simpler than you think. Regular exercise is one of the most effective and natural ways to get your digestive system moving.

Physical activity helps stimulate intestinal contractions, which can make it easier to pass stools and maintain regularity. Even something as simple as a daily walk or light stretching can make a big difference!

But did you know that physical therapy can also play a big role in managing chronic constipation? Techniques like visceral manipulation — a gentle hands-on therapy targeting the internal organs — can help release restrictions, improve motility, and support overall gut function.

So if you're dealing with persistent issues, don't hesitate to reach out to a qualified physical therapist who specializes in pelvic health or visceral work like Eagle Rock Physical Therapy.

Struggling with Nerve Pain? Physical Therapy Can Help!

Nerve pain—whether from sciatica, carpal tunnel, or other conditions—can be frustrating and even debilitating. But the good news is that physical therapy offers effective, non-invasive ways to manage and reduce your discomfort!

✅ Nerve Flossing: Gentle movements help "free up" compressed nerves, improving mobility and reducing pain.
✅ Stretching & Strengthening: Targeted exercises relieve pressure on irritated nerves and build support around them.
✅ Posture & Ergonomics: Learning proper alignment can prevent nerve compression and future pain.
✅ Manual Therapy & Modalities: Hands-on techniques, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation may help calm nerve irritation.

If nerve pain is holding you back, don’t suffer in silence. A physical therapist can design a personalized plan to help you move better and feel better!

Boost Your Quad Strength to Reduce Fall Risk

Did you know that strengthening your quadriceps can significantly lower your risk of falling as you age? As we get older, our muscles naturally weaken, particularly the quads, which play a crucial role in maintaining stability and balance. Weak quads can impair your ability to support your body weight and recover from slips or trips, increasing your fall risk. Physical therapy exercises targeting these muscles can enhance strength, coordination, and balance, making everyday activities safer.

Incorporating simple yet effective exercises, such as squats and leg lifts, into your routine can build quad strength and support better overall mobility. Regular physical therapy sessions can also help you develop a personalized exercise program to address your specific needs and improve your overall stability. Prioritizing quad strength is a proactive step towards fall prevention and maintaining independence as you age.

Did you know your grip strength could be a clue to your longevity? Recent studies have shown a strong correlation between grip strength and overall health and longevity. Research suggests that individuals with stronger grip strength tend to live longer and have lower risks of cardiovascular disease and other health issues.

Grip strength is not just about physical ability; it reflects muscle mass, physical activity levels, and overall vitality. It's fascinating how something as simple as grip strength can provide insights into our health outcomes.

Did you know that regular exercise plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving bone density?

Weight-bearing exercises like walking, running, dancing, and resistance training help stimulate bone formation, making them stronger and more resistant to fractures.
As we age, our bone density naturally declines, but incorporating exercise into our routine can help slow down this process.
Check out this informative video to learn more about how exercise positively impacts bone density and why it's essential for overall health: https://youtu.be/1gToyjm4NNA?si=ijZ2V1JO1yQpW5l- Let's prioritize our bone health by staying active and incorporating exercise into our daily lives!

Visceral Manipulation
Have you tried physical therapy before and not had success? Are you still in pain after surgery or other treatments? Have you bounced around between different medical professionals with no success? We see patients like this on a daily basis, often we see patients who come to us after trying many different forms of treatment with no success. We specialize in a form of treatment called visceral manipulation. The abdomen is often called the second brain. There is so much the medical community does not know about what goes on in the abdomen, but we have been trained in a unique way to release tension in the abdomen and improve connections between the abdominal organs and the musculoskeletal system. When tension arises in the abdomen, it can refer to different parts of the body and cause pain there. The longer this pain stays around, the more it can affect the musculoskeletal system in that area. This can be the reason why some issues don’t fully resolve with traditional forms of Physical therapy, surgery or other treatments. Visceral manipulation is completely safe and non-painful, but can yield tremendous results. These results often can start to be seen even after one visit! Different types of pain that we have treated using visceral manipulation include, but are not limited to, upper back pain, shoulder pain, rib pain, hip pain, abdominal pain, muscle cramping or spasms, low back pain, and more! Give us a call and we will let you know if we can help you get out of pain today!
