Fine motor skills are so important for everyday tasks like writing, cutting, and dressing.
Try a few of these simple activities to turn playtime into skill-building:
1. Play-Dough: Roll, pinch, squeeze, and pull play-dough to strengthen little hand muscles needed for writing, cutting, and buttoning.
2. Sticker Peel & Place: Peeling stickers works finger strength and control—placing them targets precision and hand-eye coordination.
3. Tweezer Treasure Hunt: Use tweezers or tongs to pick up small items (pom-poms, beads, cereal). This builds grasp strength and coordination.
4. Bead Stringing: Threading beads, pasta, or buttons improves bilateral coordination and finger control.
5. Clothespin Squeeze: Clip clothespins onto a box, plate, or string to strengthen the fingers used for pencil grip.
6. Paper Tearing & Crumpling: Tear paper into strips or crumple it into balls—great for hand strength and coordination (and super easy!).
