Frederick Moms and Doulas

Dear FMD Community,

In 6 years in business this is perhaps the hardest post we have had to write. As of December 31st, Alison and myself will be stopping Frederick Moms and Doulas. This has been a hard decision that has been coming over the last year and one we don't take lightly. The reality is that the landscape of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum has changed during Covid. Even more so, our families and our personal and professional lives have changed. Families need different things right now in this "post-pandemic world" and our families need different things as well.

We started FMD to serve families primarily in the hospital setting because we believed more support was needed in our community in that area. 6 years later we are confident that we have made a difference in that area. It has been more amazing than we could have ever imagined.

We are sad to see the FMD community change, but there are many amazing doulas who are ready to serve the Frederick community and our time as the "FMD team" is complete.

We will continue to take births for repeat clients as we are able and Alison will be continuing into 2022 serving clients and teaching classes outside of FMD. (Did you know she is now a teacher at Shady Grove?!)

We look forward to seeing you out and about in the community and hopefully we will be a little more rested as we enjoy more time off-call. It was and always will be our greatest honor to have served our FMD families.

Groups meet virtually as well as in-person. You can select an online group for easy access at home, or you can find an in-person group at one of our partner locations.

There are a lot of things we never thought we would do in 2020 that have become our reality. This post is one of them. Over the last few months, as we closed our office and our team has become smaller, it has been apparent that FMD as we knew it is quite different. I have struggled with where we fit first as moms and then as doulas and where FMD goes from here. It was always our vision to operate as a team to best support families...to help from pregnancy to one year postpartum and ultimately to have a physical place new families could come together. Now we know 2020 and the path ahead will look different for some time...There is no quick fix and those original dreams have faded. There is a new juggle of responsibilities that our roles as mothers and wives and friends now require. The families we work with deserve support and that support looks very different than what we have provided in the past. Things have to change and we need to simplify and adjust to better serve our own families in what lies ahead. Alison and myself (Brittany) will continue to serve as doulas and teachers through FMD, but our social media presence and the number of families we will serve will be reduced. We are working on better serving families postpartum because that is where we are seeing the greatest need. Both of us have said that this work is too important to just stop. However it is time to slow down, recharge and figure out the road ahead that 2020 has lead us too. Please continue to send your friends and families our way. If we are full we will put them in the best of hands. The website will be updated with information as the year evolves and classes and postpartum services will be there for booking...yall know Alison will never stop teaching ;) We are so grateful for this community and while our roles may look different, we know in many ways we will be stronger than ever.
