Enea Family Funeral Home

Enea Family Funeral Home The Enea, Ciaccia, Applegate and Day Funeral Directors have been serving the families of the Mohawk In August of 1969, Harry J. Enea, Jr.

began his career in funeral service assisting Edward Holleran in the operation of Holleran Funeral Service in Herkimer. In January of 1972, he obtained his NYS Funeral Director's license, and also formed the Enea Monument Company. In the early 1980's, he purchased the Herkimer location subsequently adding his name. Harry has ambitiously dedicated himself to the families of the Mohawk Valley and the surrounding areas, and is proud to say his son is equally dedicated and is continuing the tradition. In 1975 Harry began helping Thomas Konchar in running Konchar Funeral Home in Little Falls, eventually buying this firm, which is now the Enea Family Funeral Home. Subsequently, the Shepardson Funeral Home firm merged their business with the Enea Family, forming the Konchar-Enea and Shepardson Funeral Home. In 1992 a fellow colleague, Robert Woody who ran the Smith - Woody Funeral Home in St. Johnsville, NY, put his trust in our firm to carry on his name and provide the utmost service to his community. We were honored, and took this opportunity and were anxious to now serve the families of Montgomery County. The name was eventually changed to Enea Family Funeral Home and Kevin Enea is the Funeral Director in charge. Throughout the years Harry's son Kevin decided to join his father in giving the families of Montgomery and Herkimer Counties the attention and professionalism they deserved. He went on and obtained his Funeral Director's license in 1995. He joined the family business and brought forth many new ideas and concepts to the ever-changing funeral industry. Kevin, along with Harry's nephew, Jason Cacciatore, are now in charge of the Enea Memorial operation, which encompasses D.H. Burdick Monument Company in Clinton, NY and DeRegis Monuments of Syracuse, NY which were both acquired by the Enea family. He is also very active in the community and the operation of Enea Family Funeral Homes. Throughout the years our firm was approached by many funeral conglomerates throughout the country looking to acquire our business but we decided to stay family owned and operated. With that in mind, and with the addition of Harry's son, Kevin, and encouragement from many families in the Ilion and Frankfort area, we opened our newest funeral facility, the Enea Family Funeral Home, between Frankfort and Ilion, in 1999. The 6500 square foot facility includes a children's play room, ample parking, a monument office, casket and vault display, and two very large and spacious gathering rooms. This facility also houses our administrative offices, and is one of the most welcoming funeral homes in the Mohawk Valley. In July of 2004, the Enea, Applegate, and Day families came together to form a funeral home service that would jointly operate four funeral homes in the valley. The sum of Don Applegate, John Day and the Enea Family staff working together, meant significant opportunities for us to support every family's needs. The Applegate & Day Funeral Home and the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home have became completely independent and family-owned and are no longer affiliated with Stewart Enterprises Inc. Families will now be able to request the funeral director they prefer to arrange and direct their loved one's services. The Applegate Funeral Home was founded in 1919 by Don's grandfather and grandmother, Clayton and Marjorie Applegate. In September of 2016, Marty Ciaccia, a native of Frankfort and long-time licensed funeral director with the Enea firms, officially became a partner in the organization, and the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home was born. Our funeral directors and staff are proud of their commitment to the community they serve, and are dedicated, whole-heartedly, to creating an environment that makes our families feel safe and comfortable. They take pride in being Mohawk Valley residents and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. You can learn more about each of our funeral directors in the staff section of our website by clicking our staff bios.

Florence R. Cardarelli

Florence R. “Curly” Cardarelli, age 97, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at Foltsbrook in Herkimer, with her devoted daughters at her bedside.

Born on August 10, 1928, Florence was the last surviving child of the late Joseph and Josephine (Guarniere) DiGristina—an honor she carried with strength and a deep love for the family she came from.

A proud graduate of Frankfort High School, Florence built her life in the community she grew up in. On June 4, 1955, she married her beloved Carmen G. Cardarelli at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort. Their marriage was a true partnership and friendship. When Carmen passed on February 10, 2020, a piece of Curly’s heart went with him, and she carried his memory with her every day thereafter.

Florence worked for many years at DND Teletronics, later BFI Communications, retiring as a manufacturing manager. She was admired for her work ethic, her quick wit, and the way she made coworkers feel like family.

Curly was forever young at heart. She never let age define her—not for a moment. She was a fun mom, a “one of the girls” kind of woman, modern and progressive in her thinking, always ready for a good time. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family.

Even in her 90s, Curly would get down on the floor to play with her great-grandchildren, laughing as if she were their age. Shopping trips, spontaneous outings, and simple afternoons with her husband and daughters were some of her greatest joys.

Curly lived her 97 years with spirit, style, humor, and love. She was the heartbeat of her family—steady, joyful, and always ready to make a memory. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the warmth she brought to this world lives on in every life she touched.

She is survived by her daughters, Lydia and Andy Zaffarano of Frankfort, and Elaine Cardarelli of Utica; her granddaughters, Andrea Cordero of Whitesboro and Lindsey and Chris DeMarchis of Williamsville; and her great-grandchildren, Carmen Cordero, Xavier Cordero, and London DeMarchis. She also leaves behind her in-laws, Mary DiChristina, Malio and Dorothy Cardarelli, and David and Linda Cardarelli; as well a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cherished friends, Chris and Bill Schwerdt and Annette Wilcox.

She was predeceased by all six of her siblings—Neva and Nebo Volo, Joanne and Frank DiSpirito, Rosie and Charles Bellino, Rosario “Charles” and Josie DiGristina, Salvatore DiChristina, and Joseph and Marie DiGristina—and by her son-in-law, Donald Wagner.

Curly’s family wishes to thank a special group of people who cared for her during her last years with compassion and grace: the 3rd floor team at Foltsbrook, with special mention of Ruby, Annette, Jamie, Angela, Melisssa and Alana. They are also appreciative to Dr. Ashock Patel for his care and guidance through the years. Lastly, to Florence’s friend and caregiver, Tammy Quackenbush, who surrounded her with love and companionship when she resided at Claxton Manor. You are all very remarkable people for the ways you give back and Curly’s family is forever grateful.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation for Curly on Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025, from 9:00AM – 10:00AM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.

Her funeral service will commence on Tuesday, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Final interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved, Carmen.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 OR to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

All of Curly’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate funeral directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.

Sean A. Lewis

Sean A. Lewis age 61, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 20th, 2025.

On August 13, 1964, Sean Andrew Lewis was born, to Robert and June Lewis. He grew up in North Utica and so loved to visit his grandparents in Sauquoit. These were times when he played outside throwing rocks in the creek and swinging in the hammock, and of course a little mischief in grandpa’s garden as any little boy would do.

As he grew up, he found music was a place to pour his energy into. So, a drum set followed, which became his constant practice and pleasure. He was constantly working on “his beat.” His memory was amazing, and he could recite countless theme songs, the “Odd Couple “was a favorite. He was fascinated by the stars and galaxies, learning their names and looking at them. He always wanted a telescope and the “perfect place to have it.” Not only did he have a great love for the stars, he also had a love for the ocean. He always looked forward to Virginia Beach vacations and just watching the waves.

He was a solitary person but cared very much for his family and a few good friends, David Paratore was a long-time companion and friend, which he was always ready to mention with a smile, my friend “Davey.” Sean never carried a grudge, for that matter he refused to speak badly of anyone. He was known to say “hey, they did the best he could.” Truly, words to live by. For a person who had so little in a material way, he was one of the most generous people to anyone he cared about. He believed there was more happiness in giving. Sean was an “old soul” in many ways, but especially in his love of the big band era which he would never tire talking about. We have fond memories of him and his brother-in-law Nick Bonavita sharing their favorite band leaders and drummers. That is when he lit up!

Sadly, his health issues were not patient, and to our deep sadness they took his life unexpectedly. Quiet now are his drums, his love of jazz, and Abbott and Costello tv shows which always made him laugh. He leaves his mother, June Lewis, two sisters, Deborah Bonavita and Rebecca Siek, his brother Ryan and sister-in-law Rita and his brother Damon and sister-in-law Lisa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was confident in the Bible’s promise of paradise restored on earth, and he spoke so often to see his brother Dan and his father again in the promised land. No written word can describe our sadness, if only you could keep a beat for us one more time . We all love you and will carry that love until we see you again.

Revelation 21:3-4.

At this time, public services have not been scheduled. Sean and his family are under the care of the Enea-Ciaccia Family Funeral Directors.

His obituary may be viewed on the funeral home website by visiting www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.

Donald J. Nojaim

UTICA - Mr. Donald J. Nojaim passed away, peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on Monday evening, November 10th, 2025, at the Siegenthaler Center at Hospice & Palliative Care in New Hartford.

Donald was born on March 16th, 1935, in Utica, the son of the late Ferris Daher (b.Kfertay, Lebanon) and Barbara B. Harb (b.Baskinta, Lebanon) Nojaim. He received a Bachelors in Metallurgy from RPI in Troy, NY and an MBA and Masters in Science Education from Syracuse University.

Donald served our country with the United States Army. He was united in marriage with Lucille Anne Lalli on March 10th, 2000, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Utica. He was last employed with Special Metals Corporation in New Hartford as Purchasing Director.

Donald retired in 1998. His surprise retirement party was attended by friends and colleagues from around the country. He was highly respected and esteemed by all who worked with him as a man of the highest integrity, honesty, fairness, loyalty and expertise. Although Dad insisted, we not do anything, especially a “surprise retirement party”, he was truly honored and humbled by all who attended. However, he did remind us yearly “no more surprise parties”. This past March, we were blessed to celebrate his 90th birthday. All who attended wore a button that said, “I am not here to celebrate Jido’s birthday, I am here for the free food” with a picture of a vanilla cupcake with one candle. He was grateful for all the love that surrounded him with his family & friends.

At 90 years old, Donald lived a life full of love, generosity, and service. He was always the one to visit family and friends in nursing homes, check in on neighbors & friends. He showed up for people who needed comfort or company. He built lifelong friendships and maintained them with coffee gatherings, travel, laughter, and connection. He was one of the last of his circle of lifelong friends still here, we knew that was something he carried with both gratitude and sadness.

In May of 2021 Donald had a serious medical event, doctors said he would not make it. The next morning Dr. Nicholas Qandah stepped in and saved his life, for which we will be eternally grateful. Donald was gifted with a miracle and four more years during which he became a great grandfather-something he never believed he would be. God had granted him more time — and through that time, more opportunities for love, growth, and grace.

He is survived by his loving & devoted wife Lucille. He was the love of her life and best friend-she will sorely miss him until they reunite one day. Also surviving Donald are his three loving and devoted daughters, Diane M. Speer of Simpsonville SC, Linda B Findlay and her husband Bob of Simpsonville, SC and Nadine B. Nojaim of Utica; bonus daughter Patricia Houck of Melbourne FL and her daughter Jackie, grandchildren: Rachel Wise,Phd and her husband Johnny of Toledo Ohio and Daniel Speer and his partner Lisa Frick of Bethany Pa, Dr. Julia Vance and her husband Stephen of Simpsonville SC, and great-grandson Jeremy Finn and great grand-daughter Valerie Rose, his nieces Donna Sergio Neidig and husband Rich, Carla Sergio, grand nephews and nieces, and many adored cousins and friends.

Donald was pre-deceased by his sister Theresa S. Sergio and his grand-daughter, Aubrie Marie Findlay, who Jido is now loving and cuddling her in Heaven.

A Mass of the Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, with Father Boutros El Hachem, celebrating the Maronite Funeral Mass and a celebration of his life. Mass will take place on March 16th, 2026, at 11:00am with a mercy meal to follow. Final interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.

There are no public calling hours. For anyone wishing to, please consider donations to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. A special thank you to the caregivers at Hospice, who provided him with comfort and excellent care, and all the family and friends who visited with Donald during this difficult time. Funeral Care and planning have been entrusted to the family’s long - time special friend, Kevin E. Enea, with Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, Frankfort, New York.

Scott L. Davies

It is with a heavy, broken heart that I announce the passing of my dear husband, Scott L. Davies, who was truly the love of my life. He passed on to eternity on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with those dearest to him never leaving his side. He was 73 years old.

Scott was born on April 21, 1952, the only son of the late Harold L. and Dorothy (Edick) Davies. Scott grew up in the Town of Litchfield, living out his entire life on the family property on Graffenburg Road. He graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School with the Class of 1970 and furthered his studies at MVCC.

As one of the hardest working men you could ever find, Scott’s earliest years were spent alongside his father on the family dairy farm, raising cows, bailing hay and growing potatoes as a cash crop. After completion of his schooling, he would go on to establish his own excavating business. He bought some equipment and put it to work, earning a living and helping those in need along the way.

In the late 70s, Scott converted a barn on the family property to a mechanic shop and began dealing and maintaining Rupp snowmobiles. It was also in the late 70s that he met the former Christine Allaire and the beginnings of their love story began to unfold. The couple were married on September 3, 1983, and recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. They stood side by side in both work and play throughout their life together and had an incredible bond of love, laughter and togetherness.

In 1989, Scott and Christine embarked on another lifelong adventure, when they decided to open their own pumpkin farm. The business grew and developed into what is known today as Pumpkin Junction.

Currently in its 36th season, the family friendly farm offers not only pumpkins, gourds, squash, hay bales, a 6-acre corn maze and Monster Ghoul Bus rides, but an amazing collection of tricks and treats in its Halloween store. Scott’s artistry shone in the beautiful decorations and creations he made using wood and material harvested from his very own land. His passion for all things spooky, creepy, eerie and macabre were showcased on his beloved property.

When he wasn’t working the land and growing his business, Scott spent his time alongside his beloved Chris. The two enjoyed travelling, attending haunted houses and Halloween conventions across the country. Scott was a collector and loved American pickers; himself finding unique and fascinating items wherever he went.

Although he spent his life surrounded by the dark and scary, Scott’s personality was the furthest thing from it. He was one of the most loving, genuine, kindest men one could ever find. He was caring and compassionate and truly believed in giving back to his community and helping his fellow man. He would do anything for someone in need and never asked for anything in return.

Bringing joy and smiles to children and families was his life’s work and he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although my Superman has finally hung up his cape and we are heartbroken at his unexpected passing, we will forever cherish his memory and continue his legacy of love and philanthropy.

Scott leaves behind his partner in life, Christine; his mother-in-law, Jean P. Allaire of Clinton; his children, Shaun Davies, Traci Davies, Eric Bochene and Daniel Bochenek; his sister, Kathryn “Kay” Farber of Ilion; and his in-laws, Charles Newell of Sauquoit, Armand and Teresa Allaire of Hendersonville, TN, Arthur and Clarissa Allaire of Catawba, SC, Cynthia Reese of Wildwood, MO and Andrew and Jean Allaire of New Hartford. He also leaves several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and many, many friends.

Aside from his parents, Scott was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Newell and his brothers-in-law, Raymond Farber and Roger Reese.

In keeping with Scott’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours or funeral service. His family will honor and commemorate his life at a later date in a private gathering. For those wishing to do so, please consider planting a tree (or a pumpkin!) in Scott’s memory. You can easily do this by clicking on the link on Scott’s memorial page at www.eneafamily.com.
