Have you been feeling like crap, or just unusually off?

You may be suffering from S.A.D., which is short for Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'm going to help you with this today. So, let's turn your crappy feelings around.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a form of depression that typically occurs at the same time each year, most commonly during the fall and winter months when daylight hours are shorter.

The reduced exposure to natural sunlight can disrupt the body's internal clock (circadian rhythm) and lead to changes in serotonin and melatonin levels, impacting mood and sleep patterns.

Symptoms of SAD include:
- persistent low mood
- lack of energy
- difficulty concentrating
- changes in sleep patterns
- carbohydrate cravings

Addressing SAD is crucial for several reasons. . .

Firstly, the emotional toll it takes can significantly impact one's quality of life. The persistent feelings of sadness and lethargy can interfere with daily functioning, affecting work, relationships, and overall well-being.

Secondly, untreated SAD can exacerbate existing mental health conditions or contribute to the development of more severe disorders.

Recognizing the importance of getting SAD under control is key to maintaining optimal mental health.

Overcoming Seasonal Affective Disorder involves a comprehensive approach.
Exposure to natural light is extremely important. Spending time outdoors during daylight hours, even on overcast days, helps regulate circadian rhythms and improve mood. Light therapy, using a bright light box that mimics natural sunlight, is highly effective.

Physical activity is great in managing SAD symptoms because it releases endorphins, which are the body's natural mood lifters, and can counteract the fatigue and low energy levels associated with SAD.

Let’s turn things around, and have real success and follow through with your resolutions this year. Maybe you want to get fit and healthy, quit smoking or reduce drinking, save money, manage finances, learn something new or improve your mental health. Here’s how to avoid flopping and have success with your resolutions: # 1 - Block out 10 minutes in your schedule to brainstorm what you want different. # 2 - Write those thoughts down. Yes, use pen and paper! # 3 - Write down how you will achieve it. # 4 - Now pick just 1 thing to work on, so that you’re not overwhelmed. # 5 - Write down why, you want to do that resolution. Let this be the driver that keeps you motivated towards your goal. # 6 - Set a date. Be concrete, by when will you have achieved this by. Write this down, as this will keep you accountable. # 7 - Create a vision board you can look at every morning as a reminder. It could be a paper vision board or created digitally and that can be created online. I'm a big fan of Canva. OK, so that was 7 tips on how to have success with your New Year’s resolutions. On Christmas morning, when I was a little girl, I can remember hopping on a sled and Mom would pull me down the road, covered in snow, to my grandfather‘s house.

She didn’t have far to pull me. It was only two houses down our hilly road.

We would arrive to my Grandfathers house and we would all sit around his big table, with Mom and Dad, my two older Sisters, Grand Father and all the Aunts and Uncles and Cousins.

I remember my Grandfather cooking pancakes and eggs and ham and keeping everything warm in the old Rubbermaid bowls. You may remember those! The aromas were amazing, and it just felt like home!

They were the good old days.

Christmas is a very special time of the year and I have a little poem that I would like to share with you:

"In winter's hush, a tale unfolds, Of Christmas magic, joy it holds. A snowy blanket wraps the earth, As carolers sing of a Savior's birth.

Twinkling lights in every hue, Adorn the tree, a festive view. Stockings hung with care and glee, Anticipation dances merrily.

Families gather, hearts entwine, A feast of love, a bond divine. Gifts exchanged with hands that care, In moments shared, we find warmth rare.

Through frosty windows, candle's glow, Reflects the spirit, aglow with snow. In laughter's chorus, echoes ring, A symphony of the season's zing.

A silent night, a holy hush, Whispers of hope, a gentle touch. In every carol, every prayer, Christmas joy perfumes the air.

As a stress relief therapist, I understand the challenges that many women and men face in their pursuit of well-being and happiness.

Today, I want to delve into a topic that is pivotal in our journey towards inner peace: embracing new beginnings and letting go of what holds us back.

Life is a continuous cycle of change, and often, holding onto the past can be a significant source of stress.

We tend to cling to familiar patterns, even if they no longer serve us.

It's essential to recognize the need and importance of embracing new beginnings, as they offer us the opportunity to grow, evolve, and break free from the shackles of stress.

One of the primary reasons people resist change is fear:

🙈 the fear of the unknown

🙈 the fear of failure

🙈 and the fear of leaving behind what is familiar

However, it's crucial to shift our perspective and view new beginnings as a gateway to personal and emotional freedom.

When we open ourselves up to change, we create space for growth and self-discovery, and the ultimately paving the way for a more fulfilling and stress-free life.

Letting go is a powerful act of self-compassion. It involves releasing the grip on things that no longer contributes positively to our lives. . .

👉 This could be past traumas, unhealthy relationships, or limiting beliefs.

By acknowledging and letting go of these burdens, we create space for joy, creativity, and resilience to flourish.

Moreover, the ability to embrace new beginnings requires a mindset shift. It involves cultivating an attitude of openness and receptivity to the possibilities that change can bring.

I invite you to explore the concept of mindfulness and being present in the moment. By fostering mindfulness, individuals can detach from the past and future, experiencing a profound sense of peace in the present.

However, amidst the chaos, let's explore some valuable lessons that will help you overcome holiday stress and rediscover the true spirit of the season.

The holiday season is a time of joy, but it can also bring stress, anxiety and depression.

One crucial lesson to remember is that it's okay to prioritize your well-being.

In the midst of holiday preparations and gatherings, take a minute to check in with yourself. Recognize your limits and set realistic expectations.

Embrace the idea that not everything has to be perfect, because sometimes, the most cherished moments arise from spontaneity and imperfection.

Tips to Overcome Stress:

Today, I want to inspire you to do MORE of what makes your heart sing and to prioritize your happiness above all else.

In the whirlwind of life, it's easy to lose sight of our own happiness while fulfilling responsibilities and meeting expectations. But, I want to ask you to pause and reflect on the significance of embracing the things that make you happy.

You possess unique passions, talents, and dreams that are waiting to be nurtured and explored. Maybe it's painting, writing, dancing, playing an instrument, hiking, or spending time with loved ones, these activities hold the key to unlocking a life of contentment and inner peace.

When we make time for what brings us joy, we not only experience a surge of positivity but also become more productive, present, and engaged in all aspects of our lives. By dedicating time to the things that light us up, we replenish our spirits, reset our minds, and restore our sense of balance.
