Winter weather tip.. If your trailer is parked outside, cover the tongue, wires etc w something so that in a emergency you aren't trying to hook up a frozen trailer.

Milwaukee is fully rescued... today, he left this earth with a mouthful of cookies, as any horse at BSS who crosses the rainbow bridge does... finally after... not days, weeks or even months of suffering, he was able to lay down with the aid of sedation... the vet prepared him the finest "princess and the pea" bed, over 3 foot high of padded goodness.. for a second he didn't think he could trust to just relax... but with the pats and us repeating "you are a good boy, you are so strong, it's ok.. take a rest"

We are heartbroken, but so glad to have been there, to hold and reassure Milwaukee, as he finally left his suffering... as he runs through the golden gates we know he is healed, he is brave, and he is once again strong. To "rescue" an animal truly means to remove human emotions from an animal. God speed our brave solider.

Hello everyone! It's Milwaukee.. I'm a bit green when it comes to social media, but the great kind folks here at Black Star say I've caused quite a fuss, so I thought I should give you a update..

I'm not quite sure what told me Friday evening, in a dark snowy field to trust these strangers, or what gave me the strength to get on the trailer but I'm sure glad I did! As soon as they got to me they gave me some wonderful pain medication and the trailer had so much soft bedding.. we had a bit of a ride back but they kept stopping and telling me how brave I was and that I was "safe"

They gave me water I had to struggle so hard to get before and nice soft green hay, and I finally began to understand what "rescued" means. I kissed the ground when I got off the trailer...

I've mainly been resting and eating and drinking lots and lots... every little bit they come in my stall and tell me how good I am!! I even got something called "cookies" also this really nice girl spent almost a hour gently removing all the tangles from my mane and forelock and she even held my tired body up some to give my legs a rest... just look at my "fro"🤣

The other lady keeps giving me something called "medicine" on a schedule and it sure has helped me feel a bit better...

And the man here..he is so strong and has helped hold me and drove me so careful here..and today he even took some of the stall door apart to give me a "window" because I am so excited just hearing other horses, now I can watch them..

I'm so tired and really need to sleep and lay down, but I've struggled so long I just can't let myself rest .. the humans here keep talking about all different things to try and help me rest but I love it best when they just sit and hold me..

Thank you so much to everyone who is helping me get the care I need. They say tomorrow I'll get to see a whole team of doctors.

We want to start this post by saying, Thank You... thank you to the deputy who responded quickly and acted promptly when a complaint came in. You sir, deserve a gold medal..

And now, Meet Milwaukee... who is a middle aged, miniature horse.. he has been in this condition, with crippled front legs for "atleast a year" per the "owner"

We have spent the last 24 hours sick to our stomach, outraged, and on our knees holding this poor, pitiful creature.. he has been signed over to Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC and has been given immediate pain management.

His prognosis is poor, and a humane euthanasia is the ONLY ethical option for him..

I'm glad we could hook up and go yesterday, I'm glad we stayed safe at the location, and I'm glad this fella seemed to know we were his ticket outta town...

He is so sweet, so very painful, and leans into any touch he can get. Please consider donating to HOP to help cover the cost of giving him a peaceful ending.

* We have been told there will be criminal charges against the owner, and commend the sheriffs department in that county for their attention and action for Milwaukee*
