It pays to do your research, for example this feed has became popular because of their marketing.

"Controlled starch and sugar" does not mean low.

12% or under is low NSC..this is 16.5% 🤨

Not even a super great choice for your normal horse let alone one who needs a careful diet.

Meet Norris. He arrived at Black Star Stables and Arena at 9:30pm last night. Standing at 16.1 hh he sure made his presence known.

He is a OTSB. Thanks to our Standardbred Transition Alliance accreditation we are able to be a layover for a few days for this handsome 7 yr old gelding, and hope that when he is evaluated by Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC, he can come back here to learn about life off the track.

It's a great thing when owners care about safe placement for horses coming off the track! We are proud to be STA and Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredited. Caring owners/trainers paired with legit, well vetted rescues can have such a impact.

It was vet day yesterday at Black Star!! Vaccines, dentals, coggins test and exams.

Its so important to have a working relationship with a vet and we are blessed to have a practice with multiple vets.

They are here frequently enough that each vet is familiar with all our horses..

Hey everyone!

Its me, Soteria.. and they just told me I'll be going to the Equine Affaire, Inc. (Official) to represent Kentucky Humane Society Equine CARE during the ASPCA Right Horse adoption event...

Ive been practicing a few different looks/faces.. which one do you think I should use??

* A little about me*

Im a 3.5-4 yr old formerly feral horse from the strip mines. I was gathered off the mines with my foal (yep thats right I was a teen mom)

Im super smart, have a great little English trot and I'm actually a tad lazy. I stand under 14 hh and my trainers say I'll be a fun "project" for someone whatever that means.

I like to snort when something seems suspicious but I dont actually spook. Learning comes so easy to me and so does making friends in a field.

Ive been a easy keeper thanks to BUCKEYE Nutrition and they even said to keep me my adopter gets the 1st bag free!!

Wounds and horses.....

If you have horses, we all know at some point they will try and unalive themselves.. they love keeping their owners on the edge of insanity and a tad broke..

Wounds are so much work, so much monitoring, combined with bandage changes, stall rest, careful monitoring, lots of medications, and constant evaluations...

With that being said...

The horse below came here mid September with these wicked wounds (unknown cause that occured in a pasture)

In 3 months we were able to rehab and heal the wound (under vet supervision) and send it back home with all wounds closed. Now, 6 months later (bottom right) we were able to check back in with the owner.

Talk about amazing! This horse is 100% sound and healthy and was super excited to see us. This is the most current of several horses with wound that we have rehabilitated.
