Since 1963, National Social Work Month has highlighted the amazing impact of social workers. This year's theme, "Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform." describes exactly what our team does every day.

We're so grateful for the hard work of our staff, and so excited to host so many future social workers through our internship program! They're changing lives every day, helping individuals and families build better lives and create positive change in our community.

Learning to name our feelings is an important skill for kids to develop. When they can put a word to what they are feeling, they are better able to calm down and make good choices. This is a big part of social-emotional learning.

As a trusted adult, you can help reinforce these skills at home or in the classroom. Try asking "how are you feeling right now?" and looking at this illustration together. When you practice these simple strategies alongside children, you show them that all feelings are normal and that there are healthy ways to handle them.

The kids in your life are probably already learning social-emotional skills at school. These books are a great way to keep that going at home! They cover topics like empathy, kindness, and managing big feelings in ways kids actually enjoy.

Grab them for free at your local library, or find purchase links in our bio! The links support independent booksellers, we don't receive anything from your purchase.

Did you know? It's National Social-Emotional Learning Week!

Social-emotional learning (SEL) helps students build important life skills like managing emotions, solving problems, and understanding others' feelings. Every week, CAPACares visits classrooms to teach social-emotional skills with a trauma-informed approach. It's not just a program, it's a promise to meet every child where they are, so they feel safe, understood, and ready to grow.

Tomorrow is Kat's fourth CAPAversary! As our marketing and communications coordinator, she's responsible for telling our story across all media, including here on socials!

As you can imagine, praising oneself in the third person is awkward, but suffice it to say she really loves her job and has the best coworkers!

We had such a meaningful experience today at a poverty simulation exercise run by staff and volunteers from . We were all assigned various family dynamics and circumstances, and then given the opportunity to work through four 15-minute “weeks,” to get an idea of the struggles and strengths of individuals experiencing poverty. It was truly an eye-opening experience that will help shape our work as we continue to serve families in our community.

Over the last 15 years, we've hosted 245 interns. And here's something we're especially proud of: the majority of our full-time staff today were once CAPACares interns themselves. That's not coincidence, it's culture.

What makes our internship program truly special? We have two full-time, dedicated intern supervisors whose sole focus is making sure every intern has a meaningful, successful, supported experience.

We have a few summer clinical spots still open, and we're interviewing for fall 2026 now! Send your resume + cover letter to internships [at] capacares.org

Who knows, maybe next year it will be your name on one of these hearts.

Join us as we celebrate Rachel's third CAPAversary! As our Intake Therapist, she helps community members take the first step toward getting services, even when the need is great and the work is tough. Rachel shows up each day with care, patience, and a strong desire to help, always focusing on what she can do to support both clients and coworkers.

Rachel is a steady source of support for our entire team. Her coworkers describe her as kind, dependable, and always willing to help, whether that means finding the best fit for a client, answering questions and solving problems, or lending a hand wherever it’s needed. CAPACares is stronger because of her. We are so grateful for all that you do, Rachel!
