In June 2025, EMT M. Silver, EMT M. Peitsmeyer and Clinical Officer Paramedic M. Ryan tended to an ill patient as a team. The neat part, Silver and Ryan are both congenital amputees.

This patient care encounter likely marks the first time an AMR Independence patient received pre-hospital emergency care from two amputees! Silver and Ryan have even had the opportunity to care for other critically ill patients together since. Silver and Ryan want to remind any amputees out there not to let anything stop them from chasing their dreams.

Today one crew was honored for clinical excellence for their response and treatment of a critical respiratory patient.

The providers gave exceptional medical care, and worked efficiently as a team. The patient received pre-hospital antibiotics to accompany the teams respiratory and cardiac care plan.

Training Update: Independence, Missouri!

This quarter our staff were provided various education topics.

Medical Director Dr. Pichette gave valuable documentation perspectives to our providers. Clinical Officers Matt and Kristi ran providers through case reviews, respiratory concepts using pig lungs, and trauma concepts using pork butts and ribs. Each concept taught was enhanced by the input of Medical Director Dr. Gustafson. Did you know that our EMTs also participate in the same training as our Paramedics? This helps our EMTs know how to best support their Paramedic partner but also prepares them for Paramedic school!

We are so proud of the time and effort our providers put into enhancing their medical care.

Independence, Missouri!

Last Friday our new hire providers completed the two day Emergency Vehicle Operations Course where they were taught by their FTOs in the classroom and on a closed course how to safely operate Ambulances and SUVs in various situations. Our new hires practice on Type I and Type II Ambulances as well as our SUVs which we call Quick Response Vehicles. These skills will be honed and repeatedly practiced out in the field next week under the supervision of their respective FTOs!

We are pleased to announce our new home! Located north of Centerpoint Medical Center on Jackson Drive the new Headquarters for AMR Independence is currently under construction. This new facility will house our new state of the art dispatch center, training facility, and improved facilities for our crews. Our new facility is expected to be operational in Fall 2025!

As we move into the final day of National Emergency Telecommunicator Week 2025 we will close with some of the work they do.

AMR Independence dispatchers will answer and process approximately 125,000 phone calls this year, many of those being emergency calls via 911. AMR Independence Communications Center will handle calls for not only Independence but also Linn Co Kansas, KC Metro AMR, Wichita AMR, and Waubaunsee County Kansas.

On those 911 calls they will use the skills learned as Emergency Medical Dispatchers to obtain the information needed to send the right resource to the right Emergency. During these calls they will provide lifesaving instructions on how to perform the heimlich maneuver, do CPR, or control bleeding. All the while being a calming voice and presence until responders arrive.

Our 911 dispatchers do all of this day and night, 365 days a year. They will miss holidays, family events, and more to make sure a trained person is there to answer the call for help.

To the dispatchers of AMR Indepedence and all over the United States, Thank You for your dedication, time, and expertise. While your week in the spotlight may be winding down, our respect and thanks continues throughout the entire year.

Without a doubt the most well traveled in the AMR family. If you can't find Mac at a dispatch console you probably can't find him at all, he is on a boat somewhere. Mac has been part of our family for over 28 years and has been the go-to when you need an answer quick! Thank you for your knowledge and dedication sir!
