Why Triage should NOT be performed during Search and Rescue operations in our schools. Understanding this distinction can save valuable time—and lives—in emergency situations.
👉 The conditions during a Search and Rescue operation—be it in the event of a fire, earthquake, or other emergencies—are not conducive to the nuanced process of Triage. Factors like poor lighting, noisy environments, and unstable structures make accurate assessments extremely difficult.
👉 Instead, focus on the immediate "LifeSavers" steps—controlling severe bleeding, ensuring open airways, and managing shock. Once these preliminary steps are taken, victims can then be moved to a more controlled Triage area for further evaluation.
👉 Time is always of the essence, so specialized teams should focus on particular tasks. This strategy prevents the entire emergency response from rushing into the disaster area, making the operation more efficient.
