Please share with anyone who is 65 or older! Many people don’t know of this program. It significantly lowers cost of medications like insulin, ozempic, trulicity, jardiance and farxiga (just to name a few). Most people don’t know about this program.

Reactive Hypoglycemia

This is when you have low blood glucose after meals (usually 1-2 hours after). It is common in those who have had gastric bypass. Symptoms of hypoglycemia are shaking, sweating, feeling dizzy that is reversed by eating/drinking carbohydrates.

It may seem backwards, but avoiding high sugar foods can actually prevent this in most cases. Avoid foods like bagels, cereal, cake, pasta, pop, juice, and sweet lattes/drinks (just to name a few). Increasing protein intake can also help prevent this.

Alcohol consumption can also make this worse.

In those who are not taking insulin or sulfonylureas for diabetes, this is usually treatable with medication or diet). However, this can rarely be something more serious.

If you are having these symptoms, then discuss this with your health care provider .
