Meet Dennis Woody. 🤝

In November 2024, Dennis had a stroke while at work. His wife quickly recognized the signs and called for help. After several days in the hospital, Dennis couldn’t walk, stand, or use his left arm. He also experienced memory challenges.

Thanks to the dedicated inpatient and outpatient teams at RHI, Dennis began making incredible progress. He became known for his fierce determination — sprinting stairs and pulling weighted bags in the halls, cheered on by staff.

Today, Dennis is back to running Woody’s Automotive and Machine, building racing engines and attending races again.

“RHI is the place to go if you’ve had a stroke or brain injury,” Dennis shared.

Ryan came to RHI after a motorcycle accident resulted in a spinal cord injury. He began his rehabilitation with our inpatient team and later transitioned to outpatient therapy where he continues to make great strides with the help of our physical and occupational therapists.

Our full continuum-of-care helps patients like Ryan move seamlessly from one stage of recovery to the next. We're so proud of how far he has come and excited to continue supporting his healing journey.

Our incredible team from the RHI Sports Program brought together athletes with disabilities, trained volunteers, and adaptive equipment for their annual Adaptive Waterski Clinic, an event of two full days of waterskiing on Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Indiana.

From first timers to seasoned skiers, participants experienced the thrill of gliding across the water with custom skis and skilled support teams riding alongside. It’s about more than sports. It’s about freedom, joy, and proving what's possible.

CULVER, Ind-- The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana hosted an adaptive water-skiing event on Lake Maxinkuckee for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Many participants came out and showed their skills.

Dan Nickolaus has a powerful story to share. After his mother’s stroke recovery at RHI, Dan knew exactly where to turn when he suffered a stroke himself. Even though RHI is 1.5 hours away from his home, he says it was worth every minute of the drive.

“I want to be functional at my accustomed level,” says Dan. “I knew the people here would get me where I wanted to go, and they did.”

But it’s not just the exceptional care that makes RHI special, it’s the personal touch that truly stands out. Dan says, “They care about you personally. I became friends with everyone here because they genuinely care about my success. Other PT places, you’re just another face, but here, they want to know about your life, your family, and your success.”

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Dan’s recovery.
