Our mission is to feed, educate, and medically assist the deserving of Calcutta, India. In 1954, Dr. Mark and Dr. Huldah Buntain, with their daughter, Bonnie, sailed to Calcutta for a one-year missions trip. Observing first-hand the growing plight of India’s poor, they began to launch a series of compassionate ministries. Their one-year stay suddenly turned into 55 as their efforts grew into a large holistic network of programs. Now, with the help of numerous sponsors and more than 300 international volunteers yearly, we are able to provide:
Healthcare: Today, Calcutta Mercy Hospital is a six-story facility with 173 beds and 30 multi-specialty departments. Faithfully serving over 100,000 patients a year, 40,000 are treated free of charge. Ongoing programs deliver free medical services to children suffering from blindness, cleft lips or palates, thalassemia, and leukemia. In addition to the hospital, CMM supports 16 rural clinics in villages with no medical care. Education: Since the inception of Mark and Huldah Buntain's first primary school in 1964, the educational network has grown to include 102 schools with a total enrollment of 30,000 students. (school for the blind, the Hope House for disadvantaged children, and a School of Nursing that will soon upgrade to a College of Nursing.) Leadership: Calcutta Mercy Ministries' staff members develop confidence through dynamic leadership training in partnership with Dr. John Maxwell’s L.E.A.D. Online orientations, educational courses, and motivational seminars prepare doctors, nurses, administrators, and chaplains to help more people, in more cities, with the highest quality care
Feeding: Through numerous feeding stations located in and outside Calcutta, 25,000 impoverished people daily receive a hot, nutritious meal. To learn more about Calcutta Mercy, visit:
