Over the last couple of weeks Washington Healthcare has been busy!

We celebrated our veterans with the help of our amazing friends at Heart to Heart Hospice, who presented a wonderful pinning & certificate ceremony complete with donuts, cookies, orange juice, and lemonade.

We completed last week with our Annual Holiday Dinner and live music! The meal consisted of turkey, ham, green-bean casserole, mac-n-cheese, stuffing, gravy, yams, rolls, and cranberries. Drinks we served: coffee, hot tea, pink lemonade, and sweet/unsweet tea. And for dessert, you had the choice of chocolate or pumpkin pie. To say the residents, families, and staff ate until we were all stuffed is an understatement, but the best part of the entire evening was seeing the sparkle in our residents’ eyes as they smiled with delight at the sight of their families!

As we are closing in on Thanksgiving this week, let us all be reminded of the small things to be thankful for!

For twenty five years, ASC has been a place where meaningful connections, compassionate care, and unforgettable moments shape every day. To celebrate this milestone, we asked our residents and team members to finish the phrase “ASC is…” and share the first thing that comes to mind.

Congratulations Shay Welford, Social Services Director, our Quest for Excellence winner for 2025! We are looking forward to honoring this year's outstanding Quest Winners at the banquet on November 13 at the Marriott in Indianapolis.

Shay came to WHC in April of 2021 as the Activities Assistant. She was quickly promoted to Activities Director by December of 2021. She enjoyed her time in the activities department and then transitioned her role to become Social Services Director in 2023.

Shay has a knack for building relationships with the residents and their families, and she continues to build on those relationships every day, calling them her extended family. One of the things Shay enjoys most about her job is that she feels she is continually ;learning and growing, with each day and each relationship with her residents offering new challenges as victories.

Shay was born in Munster, IN and her family moved to Indianapolis in 2004. She graduated from Brownsburg High School and then went to Indiana University Bloomington where she earned a degree in Community Health.

When Shay is not at work, she enjoys watching movies, doing jigsaw puzzles, traveling, watching TikTok videos, and spending time with her family and friends. She and her fiancé also enjoy the great outdoors and take every opportunity to spend time in nature. Shay is momma to her fur baby, Shadow, and is an avid animal lover.

Congratulations on your accomplishments, Shay and thank you for being the special teammate that you are. We are so proud of you!

Washington Healthcare had a spooktacular fun filled Halloween Day. Residents and team members enjoyed apple cider, cookies, visits from Pricess Leia, Halloween filled candy bags, “spooky" stories, and we may have even done "The Mash, Oh It's The Monster Mash". We hope everyone else had just as much fun as we did on Halloween!
