Our Member of the Month is Evan Downs!

Evan has been such a loyal part of our Kompose family, and we’re so grateful for the light he brings into the studio. With a strong and dedicated practice, he shows up with a smile, a story, and a warm hello that brightens everyone’s day. In honor of Evan, we’re excited to share a little bit about his journey with you this month.

“It took a pandemic for me to get introduced to Yoga. My late wife, Shaylee, was in the throes of her chemo treatments when virtual practices started to become a thing. She always tried to get me to go in person, but I’m not sure if it was an ego thing or if I was simply mistaken about what Yoga was all about but seeing her enjoying her practice, even in her diminished condition, finally got me on board to try it out. I’ve been hooked ever since; no form of exercise has ever given me both the physical strength and mental clarity that Yoga has. I’m a lifer.”

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and to honor my wife, who gave me this practice, I wanted to share the common signs and symptoms:

Abdominal Bloating
Incontinence
Back Pain
Pelvic Pain
Loss of Appetite
Vaginal Bleeding

Ovarian cancer is often misdiagnosed (especially in younger people) as these symptoms can be dismissed as ‘period pain’ or the like. It is exceptionally important to listen to your body and be your own advocate when talking with any health provider.

Being a teen isn’t easy. There’s constant noise, pressure to perform, and so many shifts happening all at once. That’s why we created Teen Yoga, a space to unplug, breathe, and remember their own inner strength.

This class isn’t about perfect poses. It’s about learning tools for life: how to ground when things feel overwhelming, how to move with intention, and how to breathe through anything.

On the mat, teens get to reconnect with themselves, feel empowered in their bodies, and discover that their light is steady, strong, and powerful.

The beauty of practice is how it meets you exactly where you are, and this week we have something for everyone.

On Thursday evenings, our 5:15pm Vinyasa class has shifted into Yoga for Every Body. Movement and breath that supports you, exactly as you are. A space to shake off the day, feel good in your skin, and leave lighter than you came.

Saturday at 2pm, Teen Yoga invites your kiddos to explore presence, breath, and movement in a way that’s playful, grounding, and empowering. Just 45 minutes can help them reset and reconnect in the middle of busy days.

And Sunday night we close the week with a Sound Bath at 7:30pm. Imagine waves of sound washing over you, softening the edges of tension and leaving you in a state of deep calm… the perfect way to step into a new week with clarity and ease.
