BAC Is Ready to Work with President-elect Trump
11/06/2024
[Washington, DC] The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Executive Board released the following statement after Donald J. Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election:

The most fundamental tenet of our democracy is the acceptance of election results and the peaceful transfer of power. So, while our union supported Vice President Harris in yesterday’s election, we congratulate President-elect Trump on his victory. Although BAC disagrees with many of the president-elect’s stated policy goals, we will seek to work with his administration to further the interests of working people and their unions, just as we have with every president throughout our history.

Yesterday’s election made clear that Americans want government to address the cost of living. Post-pandemic inflation was perhaps the most important issue in the election, and any attempt to strengthen the finances of American households needs to not only tackle the cost of goods, but also raise wages. It is undeniable that a strong labor movement and widespread collective bargaining play a crucial role in achieving such gains. President-elect Trump would be well served to strengthen those institutions in his stated effort to fix the economy for working people.

Throughout the election campaign, President-elect Trump repeatedly disavowed the radical Project 2025 plan, which calls for the elimination of prevailing wages, collective bargaining rights, and other crucial worker protections. We hope that his rejection of that anti-labor agenda was sincere, and that he will engage with unions as partners in addressing the challenges our nation faces.

Due to the State Apprentice Contest on Saturday March 9th and the redundancy in Field Staff reports from last October. The Management Committee has decided there will be no State Meeting in April again this year. This has been the norm for many years now. We will have our regularly scheduled Statewide Meeting in October as usual. Notice will follow later in the year. Wishing you all a safe and prosperous spring and summer.
