Indy Food Safety Consulting

Indy Food Safety Consulting Indy Food Safety is a veteran owned food safety consulting firm founded in Indianapolis, IN. What is Indy Food Safety? The niche that IFS fills is a unique one.

Indy Food Safety: Setting the Standard in Food Safety By Akilah Webster, Senior Editor for AMPS MAGAZINE

Have you ever been eating at a restaurant, and wondered just how clean the kitchen really is? Or perhaps you are the owner of a dining establishment, and feel overwhelmed with the task of preparing for your next health inspection? Indy Food Safety is here to provide solutions to both these sce

narios and many more. IFS is a minority-owned business founded in Indianapolis that specializes in all aspects of food safety. IFS is on the cutting-edge of helping restaurants with solutions that help cover them for any food safety issue that may be encountered. IFS offers a wide variety of services, ranging from audits and inspections, to ServSafe certification courses for restaurant owners and employees. These services help to increase a food establishment’s knowledge and awareness of food safety procedures and standards, and ensure that employees are properly adhering to them. IFS helps take some of the burden of these issues off of the business owner, and assists the owner in areas that no one else can. The company was founded in 2005 by Jonathan Warren of Indianapolis, IN. Warren spent time as a military food inspector after high school, then went on to study at Bowling Green State University, earning degrees in Microbiology and Chemistry. After college, Warren started Indy Food Safety, which began on a small scale with a few small staffing and restaurant contracts. The company has since expanded, adding on team members and gaining contracts. IFS’s team of food safety professionals are no strangers to the world of food safety. The staff members are all college graduates with extensive backgrounds in food science, microbiology, food inspection, food manufacturing, and environmental health. They are certified food handlers, certified trainers, inspectors and sanitarians. The business has now grown from its start-up phase, to become a fully functioning entity. IFS hopes to continue to grow, and will soon be

looking to add new team members with backgrounds in food safety, and experience with USDA and FDA inspections. Food safety can be a daunting subject for restaurant owners and employees. But with IFS’s assistance, food establishments can handle these issues with ease. IFS strongly believes that food safety should be a standard, not an option. Restaurant owners and managers should look at food safety services as a necessity in order to run a safe and successful business. IFS can assist businesses in all stages. For example, the company can help a start-up restaurant establish safety and cleaning procedures, pest control, uniform services, proper food storage and cooking temperatures, and sanitation procedures. In contrast, IFS can also assist a veteran business that is in danger of being shut down due to health violations. IFS would be able to guide that business into getting up to code, and getting things back in order. Either way, once IFS has serviced an establishment, passing the next health inspection should be no problem! IFS’s services don’t leave out the customer. The company also offers formal 3rd-party customer illness complaint investigations. Within 24 hours of an illness complaint, IFS will conduct a customer interview, a facility investigation, and a detailed report of the findings. Today’s food industry is constantly changing, and the services that IFS offers are definitely needed. Knowing that a restaurant has been serviced by IFS would certainly make me feel more confident about the food I am consuming. Did you know the clock starts ticking the moment your Certified Food Protection Manager leaves?

In Indiana, food establishments have a 90-day window to replace their CFPM to stay compliant with state regulations. While three months might sound like a long time, we all know how fast things move in a busy kitchen. Between hiring, training, and scheduling exams, that countdown disappears before you know it.

Waiting until the last minute is a risk you don't need to take. Staying ahead of the 90-day rule keeps your business running smoothly and ensures you're always prepared for an inspection. We love seeing our local restaurants succeed, and staying proactive is a huge part of that.

We’re here to help you beat the clock! Join us for our next online ServSafe class tomorrow, Monday, at 6 PM. It’s an awesome class: convenient, live, and designed to get you or your staff certified without the stress.

Check out our free study guides or grab your spot for tomorrow’s class at www.indyfoodsafety.com. Let’s get that certification checked off your list and keep your kitchen moving forward!

Is your "golden brown" check creating a safety gap in your Indiana kitchen? 🍗

Air fryers are efficient, but relying on visual cues like a perfect crust is risky. Pathogens don't care about color: only internal temperature. At Indy Food Safety Consulting, we help your team bridge this gap with practical habits that ensure regulatory compliance. Another successful week of training has shown us that mastering the use of a calibrated thermometer is a simple step that makes a huge difference during inspections.

Join our live, instructor-led online ServSafe class this Monday at 6:00 PM. Get certified with same-day results and build the confidence your kitchen needs. Our online sessions are straightforward and designed for busy Indiana food service professionals.

Myth-buster: In Indiana, you don’t have to take a training course before sitting for the ServSafe exam.

But here’s the thing: just because you CAN skip training doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

We see it all the time: managers who go in “cold” often have lower pass rates and miss the real-world safety nuances that show up on the test (and during inspections). Training helps you connect the dots on topics like time/temperature control, cross-contamination, cleaning & sanitizing, and employee health policies: so you’re not just memorizing answers.

Hot holding vs. reheating: It’s a mix-up that can mean wasted food (and money)! We see it all the time: food held below 135°F gets tossed because folks think reheating and holding are the same. Let’s clear it up:

Quick Tips:
• Hot holding = keep food above 135°F at all times
• Reheating = heat food to at least 165°F for 15 seconds before hot holding
• Never use a steam table to reheat food: always use ovens, stovetops, or microwaves first.

Getting these steps right keeps your foods safe, flavorful, and out of the trash. Want expert guidance, easy ServSafe® certification, or free study resources? Join our online classes Mondays at 6 PM or meet in-person first Saturdays each month. Get instant certificates, friendly local support, and same-day results at indyfoodsafety.com!
