Living in a vibrant city can be a thrilling experience, but it's critical to be mindful of potential risks to your hearing. And some cities pose an even greater risk of hearing loss.

But don't fret! You can still enjoy the city life while protecting your hearing. Here's what you can do to reduce the risk of premature hearing loss:

1️⃣ Utilize earmuffs, earplugs, and other protective devices in noisy environments, like sporting venues or restaurants.
2️⃣ Limit prolonged time spent in places with sources of loud noise, like transportation hubs, recreation areas, construction sites, and nightclubs.
3️⃣ Keep the volume on your personal audio devices at a moderate level to prevent damage to your ears.
4️⃣ Maintain regular hearing evaluations to monitor your hearing health and address any concerns promptly.

Remember, prevention is the key!

Why Protect Residual Hearing? 🔊👂

Hearing aids are incredible devices. But here's the thing: they're not a cure for hearing loss. Instead, they work in harmony with your residual hearing.

Here's why you should cherish and protect your residual hearing:

1️⃣ Better Hearing Aid Performance: Hearing aids are custom-tailored to your unique hearing loss pattern, whether it's high-frequency or low-frequency. The more residual hearing you have, the more effectively your hearing aids can function.

2️⃣ Enhanced Sound Clarity: Residual hearing serves as the foundation upon which your hearing aids build. It allows you to discern nuances in speech and enjoy richer, more vibrant sounds.

3️⃣ Long-Term Hearing Preservation: Guarding your residual hearing is an investment in your auditory future. By protecting it, you reduce the risk of further hearing loss.

The field of Audiology lost a great one last week- Mead Killion, Ph.D.
🧑‍💻The founder of Etymotic Research, and a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he developed The Bean. A sound amplifier utilizing analog technology, it was not a medical device.
👂As such it was the first non-prescription (OTC) hearing device. It utilized the K-Amp circuit which amplified soft sounds and allowed loud sounds to pass through. K-Amp ( K for Killion) was a HUGE leap in technology at the time…. And it 😩failed miserably. Audiologists were not ready to support this notion.
Professional Hearing Services, Inc. has one of the original pairs of and Dr. O’Connor is wearing them today at the office… RIP Mead. You were one of the greats!

It’s not every Saturday that you’re gifted 🍷 at 8:45am. But today is Leonard’s 💯 th birthday. And Dr. O’Connor met his daughter at the office this morning. At 8:30… because that’s what we do at Professional Hearing Services, Inc.. ❤️

A very dear man, he practiced ophthalmology for over 60 years, but ironically later lost ALL of his sight 👁️ and much of his hearing 👂. So when the office phone rang at 5:30 on a Friday night, Dr. O’Connor somehow knew it was an important call. Leonard’s entire family (except two great grandbabies) are celebrating his 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ th birthday today. His Left hearing aid was dead, no amplification. 🦻🏼And without his sight and only hearing in his Right ear, this milestone birthday would be miserable for Leonard. She was able to diagnose the hearing aid issue and repair it in the lab at PHS. Because that’s what we do for our patients… since 1983. Even on the occasional Saturday. Happy Birthday Leonard! 💯🎂
