Carlos Charlie Mendez, age 47, of Lima, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Carlos was born on September 9, 1978, in Mercedes, Texas, to Ezequiel Mendez Sr. and Petra (Perez) Mendez, both of whom survive in Sebastian, Texas.
Carlos grew up in Sebastian, where graduated from Lyford ISD in 1997. Carlos went on to graduate from Universal Technical Institute, earning his certification in Automotive Technologies. His passion for driving and the open road led him to a successful career as a Professional Driver. Carlos proudly founded Joca Trucking Services, LLC, building a business that reflected his dedication, independence, and determination.
In June 2019, Carlos relocated to Ohio, after meeting the love of his life, Joy Lynn Shepherd. The two were married on March 27, 2021, and shared a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship.
Carlos loved fishing for catfish, collecting guns and knives, watching anime, and playing Call of Duty. One of Carlos’s greatest joys came in 2017, when he rescued his beloved dog, Kiba, who remained a loyal and cherished companion.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Joy Lynn Mendez; his step-children: Eddie Lee Shepherd III, Wesley Allen Shepherd, and Taran Shamane Shepherd, of Lima, Ohio; his siblings in Texas: Ezequiel Mendez Jr., Patricia Mendez, Edward Mendez, and Susie (Ariel) Garcia; and his sister-in-law: Tara Shepherd (Christopher Henderson) of Lima, Ohio.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews in Texas: Ezequiel Mendez III, Sebastian Mendez, Rebecca Mendez, Amber Mendez, John Wayne Mendez, Ariel Garcia Jr., and Abigail Garcia.
Carlos was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Becky Mendez.
Carlos will be remembered for his sarcastic banter, hardworking spirit, love for family, fierce loyalty, and his ability to connect with others through shared interests and genuine kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in South Texas for close friends and family.
