𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐲𝐞?.. and the answer is 🥁🥁🥁

👀 LESS THAN 10 👀

The eye only has 𝐒𝐈𝐗 main muscles that control movement and alignment, allowing us to looking right, left, up, down, and diagonal without moving our head. There are 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄 other supporting muscles: 2 that allow us to blink and 1 that controls our pupil. A total of 𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐄 muscles in all.

It's pretty shocking to think that the second most complex organ in our entire body only has less than 10 muscles to function. When eyes are able to function correctly, signals are transmitted from the retina to the brain that creates pictures for us to see and understand life as we know it.

𝕃𝕒𝕤𝕥 𝕗𝕦𝕟 𝕗𝕒𝕔𝕥: Eye muscles are the fastest reacting muscles in the human body and can also cue other muscles to move as well.

🌎 July 11 is World Population Day! 🌍 Here's a couple interesting eye surgery facts to think about:

An estimated 30 million people worldwide have had laser eye surgery (LASIK, SMILE, etc.) 👀

Cataract surgery, though, is performed an estimated 20 Million times PER YEAR worldwide. 🤯 Some statistics even estimate up to 28 million cataract surgeries a year.

That's a lot of restored vision! 🌏🤟👁👁

🍫 Happy World Chocolate Day, friends! 🍫

Fun Fact Friday: In 2018, research reports were published stating eating dark chocolate improved visual acuity 🤓 ...Unfortunately for all of us chocolate lovers, the findings were debunked only a year later. 👎

That won't stop us, we can still celebrate World Chocolate Day because it's delicious 🤩

Did you know—Cataracts do not only affect individuals due to age. Genetic disorders, trauma, and medications can also induce cataracts starting from a young age (sometimes babies are even born with cataracts). While these circumstances are not as common as age-related cataracts, that does not mean you won’t eventually know of someone that has been affected by cataracts when you least expect it.

A perfect example for cataract development in an unsuspecting person is actress Mila Kunis. Often known for her break-out role as Jackie of That 70s Show, Mila struggled with chronic iritis for years. This impacted her vision in a big way, leaving her with a developed cataract and severely blurry vision. She had cataract surgery in 2010. At age 27, when finally revealing her secret in 2011, she said, “I was blind in one eye for many years. I’m not blind anymore. I had surgery a couple of months ago… They dropped a new lens in.”

Thanks to everyone who voted in yesterday's FACT or FAKE: There are prescription eyedrops that can treat cataracts.

31% of people voted that was a FACT
69% of people voted that was FAKE

And the answer is... 🥁🥁🥁

FAKE- Currently, there is no prescription eye drop used to prevent or dissolve cataracts. The only treatment for cataracts is cataract surgery.

Who knows, maybe someday! 🤷🤷‍♀️
