2026 Educational Interpreter Round Table - SAVE THE DATES!

The Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (CDHHE) is set for another year of providing free, online, accessible professional development for educational interpreters in the K-12 classroom setting who work with deaf and hard of hearing children.

These trainings can translate into professional growth plans and typically offer RID CEU credit. They are suitable for interpreters who are at a foundational level of ability all the way to professionals refining their product. Proof of attendance will be provided to all interpreters who join.

If this type of training is not directly beneficial for you, you can still help! Please pass it along to anyone you feel would benefit. Staff interpreters as well as agency contract interpreters are invited to join the online platform to gain knowledge, share resources, and utilize peer support to troubleshoot workplace challenges.

In 2026 we will be meeting from 6-8 p.m. EST on the third Monday of the month. Interpreters who attend all sessions will be able to accumulate 22 contact hours. All activities will be submitted to RID for CEU approval. See below for dates and topics covered.

A new study in Pediatrics found that twelve-year-olds who owned smartphones were more likely to experience depression and obesity and not get enough sleep than their peers without one. Consistent communication with children and teens about smartphones and screen time can help make sure that phones don’t crowd out important activities like exercise, sleep, and quality time with friends and family. Today we had the privilege of celebrating an incredible milestone for a truly remarkable leader in our field. Cindy Lawrence was honored with the State Health Commissioner’s Recognition for Excellence in Public Health—a testament to her more than 40+ years of unwavering commitment to promoting, protecting, and advancing the health and well-being of deaf and hard of hearing children across Indiana.

Cindy’s impact is immeasurable. Her leadership, advocacy, and deep dedication have shaped countless families, educators, and professionals throughout our statewide system. As she steps into retirement, we honor not just her tenure—but the legacy of service, compassion, and excellence she leaves behind.

Congratulations, Cindy, and thank you for setting the gold standard in early intervention and public health. Your work has transformed lives, strengthened communities, and elevated the mission of the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education for generations to come.
