The College of Pharmacy at Butler University originated in 1904 with the founding of the Winona Technical Institute. In 1914, the pharmacy department separated from the institute to become the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy (ICP). In 1930 the ICP became one of the first pharmacy colleges to create a four-year baccalaureate curriculum. In 1945 Butler and the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy merged, and erected a new building on Butler's campus in 1950. The building, with its fully mediated classrooms and state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, was completely renovated in 2008-2009. The name of the college was changed to College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences when the Physician Assistant program was developed in 1995.

We are excited to share that we are changing our name from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to the College of Health Professions to better reflect the diversity of our programs and to be more inclusive of all healthcare disciplines.

Since its founding in 1945, following the consolidation with the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy, our college has continually grown to meet the changing needs of healthcare education. In 1996, the name was updated to reflect the addition of the physician assistant program. Since then, we’ve expanded our undergraduate and graduated academic offerings.

Looking ahead, we plan to introduce new programs designed to meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals and to prepare you for leadership in a dynamic healthcare landscape.

We’re proud of our legacy and excited about the future. This change honors our history while opening new doors for innovation, collaboration, and opportunity. This new name will be effective June 1, 2026.

We’re excited to introduce our new pharmacy fellows, Caroline Rahrig and Margaux Meilhac!

Caroline Rahrig is a Global Patient Safety and Pharmacovigilance Fellow with Butler University, Eli Lilly & Company, and the FDA. She recently earned her PharmD from Purdue University. During her time at Purdue, Caroline conducted a research project at Riley Hospital for Children that evaluated deviations from guideline-recommended therapy for perinatal headache. The project investigated the downstream effects of using butalbital containing medications in this patient population and sought to reduce its inappropriate use. In her free-time, Caroline enjoys baking, doing paint-by-numbers, and traveling.

Margaux Meilhac is a Medication Error, Pharmacovigilance, and Risk Management Fellow with Butler University, Regeneron, and the FDA. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacology at McGill University. During her time in pharmacy school, Margaux contributed to multiple medication safety initiatives by conducting literature reviews on gender differences in drug-related anaphylaxis and evaluating the real-world relevance of biomarkers with potential safety implications. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the US national parks, crafting with friends and family, and horseback riding.
