The College of Pharmacy at Butler University originated in 1904 with the founding of the Winona Technical Institute. In 1914, the pharmacy department separated from the institute to become the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy (ICP). In 1930 the ICP became one of the first pharmacy colleges to create a four-year baccalaureate curriculum. In 1945 Butler and the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy merged, and erected a new building on Butler's campus in 1950. The building, with its fully mediated classrooms and state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, was completely renovated in 2008-2009. The name of the college was changed to College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences when the Physician Assistant program was developed in 1995.

Talk about a glow-up!

BUCOP has been quietly doing superhero work and now they've got the space to match. Your support this Day of Giving helps make their next two dream purchases a reality: a larger fridge to treat MORE patients and a patient education handout holder to keep patient care going strong at home.

Every dollar = real impact for real patients.

Thanks to generous donors of the Dean's Priority Needs Fund, our pharmacy students are suiting up and heading to Boston to meet with leading biotech & pharma companies this Spring Break.

The Dean's Priority Needs Fund gives Dean Soltis the power to act fast and support students in ways that matter most. Real-world connections. Real career opportunities. Real impact.

Support the fund that keeps our College ready for anything.

Student Victoria Gaertig '27 worked with Professor Caleb Class to research and publish the the findings from a multi-year systematic review.

“It was nice having that one-on-one mentorship—having someone who believes you can learn something new,” she said. “I’ve gained skills that will help me for the rest of my career.”

We are excited to share that we are changing our name from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to the College of Health Professions to better reflect the diversity of our programs and to be more inclusive of all healthcare disciplines.

Since its founding in 1945, following the consolidation with the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy, our college has continually grown to meet the changing needs of healthcare education. In 1996, the name was updated to reflect the addition of the physician assistant program. Since then, we’ve expanded our undergraduate and graduated academic offerings.

Looking ahead, we plan to introduce new programs designed to meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals and to prepare you for leadership in a dynamic healthcare landscape.

We’re proud of our legacy and excited about the future. This change honors our history while opening new doors for innovation, collaboration, and opportunity. This new name will be effective June 1, 2026.
