Meet part of our NC speech therapy team! 🌟

Kayleigh is one of Hopebridge’s pediatric speech therapists who loves creating playful moments where kids get to be the expert. By purposely creating situations where something isn't quite right, Kayleigh gives her kiddos a chance to problem-solve, and communicate how to do it the "right way." 💬✨

One of her proudest moments? When a child surprised her by signing, “I want play piano, please,” using more words than they had practiced—all because she really wanted that toy.

We can't get enough of these takeaways from Hopebridge Speech-Language Pathologist Morgan Allen about her experience bringing the new autistic Barbie to the Carmel center. We love when our kiddos - and our clinicians! - have fun learning through play!

"Moments with my autistic Barbie that made today the best therapy day I’ve had in a long time:

*When my client said they should share a first name because 'her skin looks like mine'

*When another client took Barbie’s noise canceling headphones and tried to put them on herself, then found her own pair for sensory accommodation

*When I 'modeled' Barbie’s AAC use and a client responded with their device

*Creating Barbie’s AAC strap out of one of my hair ties to show how cool it is to wear crossbody and transport independently

*Barbie going to the gym and being set up to watch my client spin during sensory break

*Genuinely — my own excitement over playing Barbies with the best OT counterpart. My own excitement makes me a better clinician. Barbie sparks joy. ✨🩷🎀"

Sometimes love is a language only you and your child understand, especially with nonverbal children. While everyone communicates differently, we still celebrate every win where a child is able to relay their thoughts and feelings. At nearly 3 years old with a bit more than six months of autism therapy in our centers, Isaac surprised his mom with "Ah uh ooo."❤️
