I'm Carissa— an EMDR-certified and ERP trained therapist helping the hustlers, high achievers, and quiet overthinkers who are tired of being “on” all the time.

In my 20s and early 30s I was so focused on advancing in my career that I didn't even realize I was burning out. I was praised for my efficiency and high performance and was encouraged to advance leadership quickly.

I understand as a high achiever and perfectionist how hard it is to slow down. I walk the talk and do what I tell the people I work with.

I help you turn down anxiety, stop running on adrenaline, chill the heck out, and enjoy your life.

Let's chill together.

Overthinking isn’t a sign you’re secretly a genius.
It’s usually a survival habit your brain picked up and never retired.

At some point, your mind learned that replaying conversations, planning for every possible outcome, and staying five steps ahead helped you feel safe. Gold star for past-you ⭐️ — that strategy worked.

But now? It might just be running in the background like 37 open tabs, draining your energy and joy.

Here’s the alternative:
Instead of thinking harder, try pausing. Take one slow breath. Check in with your body. Ask, “What do I actually need right now?”

Clarity doesn’t always come from more thoughts — sometimes it comes from slowing down.
Nothing is wrong with you. Your brain is just really good at its job… maybe a little too good.
And you’re allowed to close a few tabs.

"Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." - Babe Ruth
Here's a breakdown of how high achievers or perfectionists might look if they were up to bat:

⚾ 1. The High Achiever Strike Zone:
You set your strike zone so tiny that even a perfect pitch feels like a miss. Sometimes the problem isn’t your performance… it’s your expectations.

⚾ 2. The Invisible Wins:
You can hit 20 singles and still think, “But it wasn’t a home run.” Not every success has to be a grand slam to count.

⚾ 3. The Over-Functioner’s Lineup:
Pitcher, catcher, shortstop, AND outfield — all at once. High achievers try to do it all, and no wonder you’re exhausted.

⚾ 4. Swing Anxiety:
It’s not the strikeout you fear… it’s everyone seeing it. High achiever, perfectionist, human — we all feel this.

⚾ 5. Stop Playing Extra Innings With Your Thoughts:
Overthinking is just mental overtime you didn’t get paid for. Call the game. Go home. Rest. Even champions take days off.

⚾ 6. Call the Game, Take a Day Off:
High achievers expect perfection… when even professional players fail 70% of the time. You’re allowed to be human. The league rules actually require it.

Still riding the conference high. 🙌
The conference was everything I needed — inspiring speakers, heartfelt conversations, and that sense of “these are my people.” So many good conversations, new ideas, and a few laughs along the way. I always walk away remembering why this work matters so much. 💛

Loved connecting with other counselors at tonight's networking event at the Conference. Such a good reminder that we’re not in this work alone. Grateful for the community, conversations, lobster pasta dish and raffle 🎟

Feeling grateful for the chance to gather with fellow somatic practitioners through I-SOPA. 💛

There’s something so special about being in a room full of people who understand the language of the body, who honor movement, breath, and presence in healing. 🌿

Looking forward to continued heartfelt conversations, shared wisdom, and building connections that nourish both personally and professionally.

Here’s to community, collaboration, and moving together with care. 🤝

🌿 Faith & Mental Health Belong Together 🌿

For too long, conversations about mental health in faith spaces have been silenced or misunderstood. I've worked to develop a NEW Faith & Mental Health Guide is designed to bridge the gap—equipping church leaders and faith communities with practical tools to:

✨ Talk about mental health with compassion and confidence
✨ Break down common misconceptions
✨ Support individuals who are struggling without shame
✨ Create a safe, healing space in your community

Because caring for our minds is an important part of taking care of our overall wellness and health. 💙

📖 Comment or DM your email address and I will send you the free guide directly to your inbox.
