Progress House, the largest and oldest Recovery Residence in Indiana, turned 59 years old in December 2020. We are not a traditional halfway house.
Progress House became a wholly governed subsidiary of Aspire Indiana Health. Progress House provides an opportunity for men seeking permanent recovery from an addiction to any mind-altering substance. Our program is a structured, 3-Phase behavioral health and long term residential treatment program that focuses on the healing of our client's bodies, the transformation of their minds, and the awakening of their spirits. We have often wondered what does that mean? Halfway to where? We are a Recovery Center and we use proven, evidence-based practices to equip individuals to live an active life in recovery sufficient enough to bring about recovery from substance use disorders. In our experience, a psychic change, also referred to as a spiritual awakening, is required to achieve permanent recovery. The Twelve Steps create the transformation in the individual and our recovery program, including clinical services, provides the framework that increases the likelihood of success. In November 2019, Progress House became a wholly governed subsidiary of Aspire Indiana Health allowing us to provide the most comprehensive on-site services in Indiana including: Primary Medical Care, Behavioral Health Care, Medication Assisted Treatment, 12-Step, Recovery Coach/Peer Support, Skills Training, Supported Employment, Case Management and more. Progress House is part of Aspire's Whole Health Continuum. To learn visit more https://www.progresshouse.org/residential-treatment

The gift of recovery is continuous. Every day presents a new opportunity to experience gratitude, joy and pride in one’s recovery. 💗🥰💝
“To anyone who struggles with addiction, please know you are not your mistakes,” says Team Lead - Peer Recovery Specialist Sara Grady. “Tomorrow is a new day, and there is so much life ahead of you not defined by addiction but instead by your resilience. Protect your space, count the small wins, and lean on the people who want to see you succeed.”

“The holidays are truly a time to be grateful,” says Community Health Worker and Macy Driver Michael Burke. 🥰🎄💖
“The realization that others want me present today and to be involved in their lives brings a sense of peace and joy that used to be unimaginable. The ability to forgive and be forgiven, to let go, would not be possible without being active in my recovery. Accepting help is the first step; we all deserve better.”

The intersection of recovery and the holidays can be filled with difficult moments and choices, but it can also be filled with a deep sense of gratitude. ❤️🫶🎁💝
“I know, for many, the holidays can lead to isolation and suffering,” says Aspire Senior Vice President of Addiction Recovery Services Darrell Mitchell. “Early in my recovery, when I was hopeless and in pain, I experienced love and kindness from strangers. They didn’t expect anything from me in return — other than paying it forward. I had no idea they were showing me how to live a peaceful, purposeful life. For that I will be forever grateful. Today, gratitude and service to others are deeply linked daily practices. It truly is the gift that continues to give.”

The gift of recovery is about experiencing the present moment — connection to loved ones, connection to the community, and connection to recovery is powerful and can be heightened during the holiday season. ❤️🫶🥰💝🎁
“Recovery has a very special place in my heart this time of year,” says Aspire Medical Director of Addictions Services Dr. James Meacham. “I have a clear understanding of the pain that comes at this time of year as a result of loss and also the pain that comes with watching another continue to struggle. As we walk through the coming days of the holiday season with those we serve, I am grateful to be part of a team at Aspire that shows up every day to help someone find their way or deal with whatever they show up with.”
Happy Holidays!

Aspire's Progress House recently welcomed residents into its second of two properties offering Level II programming, completing an expansion that includes 36 Level II program beds located at five sites. Level II is the step of recovery care that bridges the gap from a very structured recovery residence to independent living.
“The addiction services market has a dire need for structured Level II programs built on the foundation of a 12-step recovery program with a focus on the development of life skills,” says Aspire Director of Recovery Support Services Eliot Severeid.
This expansion allows individuals to transition from formal support at Progress House, surrounded by structure and accountability, to more informal community support. https://www.aspireindiana.org/residential-treatment

Happy 64th Anniversary, Progress House!
It all started in December 1961 in a small house in the 2000 block of North New Jersey Street, with barely enough room for 10 men. Progress House later moved to 1703 Talbot Street and then again in 1969 to 14 North Highland, where it would remain for the next 32 years.
In November 2001, Progress House moved to its present location at 201 Shelby Street, just one mile from downtown Indianapolis.
Today, Progress House can serve just under 100 men on its Indianapolis campus and was the first recovery residence in the country to receive the Recovery Innovation Challenge Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recognizing Progress House's remarkable journey.

The mission of Progress House is to save lives and serve others by providing seekers of hope a safe sober living environment and tools for developing long-term recovery, self-sufficiency, and community reintegration. Leading men from Addiction to Recovery since 1961!
Progress House is a 501(c)3 Recovery Home for men over the age of 18. We work on personal growth while abstaining from all illicit drug and alcohol use. Progress House was founded in 1961 and has been in operation for 57 years. We are the oldest and largest Recovery Residence for men in the State of Indiana, serving 160 men total.
Asking for help is the most crucial first step anyone can take on the road to recovery. We accept only those willing to surrender to their addiction. Upon entry to the House, residents begin with an assessment and an agreed upon recovery plan.
Our programming is based on the 12 Step philosophy, that once we straighten out spiritually, we straighten out physically and mentally. The staff at Progress House works closely with our residents to address the physical, mental and spiritual needs of each resident. One of the keys to our success is the therapeutic value of addicts and alcoholics working with other addicts and alcoholics, admitting there is a problem; seeking help; engaging in a thorough self-examination; confidential self-disclosure; making amends for harm done, and eventually helping others with substance use disorders who want to recover.
Our programming addresses our residents holistically (mind, body, and spirit), which includes:
Safe and Affordable Housing
Recovery Support Services
Intensive Case Management
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Resources
Supportive Services (Health Care, Legal, Insurance)
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Relapse Prevention Counseling
Employment Placement
GED Tutoring and Testing
Job training for a variety of trades
Daily Living Skills Coaching
Financial Management
Nutrition and Wellness
Anger Management
Spiritual Study, Spiritual Action, & Spiritual Disciplines
We endeavor to instill in our residents a healthy value system which includes:
* Learning responsibility to self and others
* Sensitivity to self and others
* Accountability to self and others
* How to make appropriate decisions and choices
* Self-discipline and manageability
* Community, connecting to others through the social model of recovery
A 90 to 120 day minimum requirement is necessary to successfully complete Phase I of our program. Most residents complete Phase II between six months and a year, at which time they can apply for residency at Next Step. At Next Step, our residents complete Phase III of our program at the two-year mark.
We claim spiritual progress, not spiritual perfection.
