World Polio Day is here. According to CDC, polio cases have dropped by over 99% since 1988, preventing millions of cases of paralysis.

Survivors of paralytic polio often go on to live whole lives with mobility support! Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt demonstrates this, and disability rights advocate Judy Heumann is another evident example. Polio remains endemic in just two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, but that doesn't mean we here in the United States shouldn't strive to continue maintaining strong immunity.

Here's why this matters, and what we can do according to the CDC:
- The best known way to prevent polio is vaccination.
- CDC and partners continue to work on ending wild poliovirus transmission and preventing outbreaks of variant forms.
- Wholesome surveillance, immunization campaigns, and community engagement make eradication possible.

Servants at Work, Inc. We’re honored to receive this special award and grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in our community! 💚 💚

Congratulations to Rehab Medical — our 2024 Corporate Partner of the Year! 💚

Rehab Medical has been a steadfast partner in building freedom through mobility access — and their impact continues to grow. Since 2021, their team has helped build 15 ramps and pledged more than $74,000 in support of SAWs.

Their volunteers have been part of some of SAWs’ biggest milestones — sponsoring and building our 3,000th, 4,000th, and 5,000th ramps.

That 5,000th ramp, completed last week in Greenwood, gave safe home access to a family of four, including 6-year-old Elijah, who has autism and epilepsy. His mother, Chelsea, shared:

“He has epilepsy and autism, and our stairs were falling apart. Somebody in one of the church groups recommended SAWs. It’s been great. Thank you so much—we’re so grateful.”

At Saturday’s Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, SAWs Executive Director Tim Thurston presented Rehab Medical with the Corporate Partner of the Year Award in recognition of their extraordinary generosity, volunteer spirit, and unwavering belief that everyone deserves access and independence.

Rehab Medical truly embodies the heart of every ramp—compassion in action.
