Melanoma tends to show up in different places for men and women. In women, it most often appears on the legs, while in men it commonly develops on the trunk (chest and back). Be sure to check your entire body during skin checks, and pay extra attention to these areas.

2025 was filled with meaningful impact and forward momentum! Here are a few of the highlights:
☀️ Introduced Ryan Augustin, MD, from the Clinic as our 33rd Melanoma Research Scholar.
☀️ Welcomed more Girl Scout councils into the Sun Safety Patch program, giving 30,000 more scouts access to sun safety education.
☀️ Partnered with to bring our sun safety information to fans of the Indy 500, the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
☀️ Named Bijal Patel, PhD candidate in Epidemiology, as our fourth Outrun the Sun scholar at Fairbanks School of Public Health.
☀️ Hosted the SPF 500 fundraising event at the

Those with lighter skin are more likely to develop melanoma. However, those with darker skin are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages making it more challenging to treat. Remember, regular skin checks are important for everyone no matter their risk level!

Did you know that genetics can play a role when it comes to your health? If a parent or grandparent had melanoma, you may have an increased risk for developing it. Learn your family health history and do ongoing self-skin exams. Prevention and early detection are key.
