Emerson House, part of Indianapolis Senior Living

Emerson House, part of Indianapolis Senior Living Emerson House is a beautiful home for seniors who would rather not live in an "institution".

Emerson House was a wonderful, loving environment for seniors. We give God thanks for the 11 years it was open, but it was time for us to retire, and the pandemic made it inappropriate to continue marketing, so we closed at the end of June, 2021. Our residents and their families were wonderful blessings for us. We were able to get the residents fully vaccinated, so made them as safe as we could before closing. Two of our last 4 residents turned 102 in 2021, which is a testament to how healthy our home was. And a reminder that at 102 you can still have your mental faculties and participate in engaging conversation!

The building has been sold to a mental health organization who will be providing much needed transitional housing to individuals who have been through treatment who need 6 to 12 months to get their feet back on the ground and return as independent and self-reliant members of society. We pray for their success!

God Bless you, and thank you for your support of Emerson House!

We're having spring in November!! And we had two other unique things last week. We have had deer (4 at one time in the garden early last week), but Friday we saw a buck walk through. We had not seen a buck before. This one looked like it was probably a 6 pointer, but we just caught the back and didn't get a good look. The on Saturday after lunch ladies asked if it was a cat on the patio. I said "No", but couldn't tell what it was. They suggested weasel, but they only get to 8", so more like a squirrel. And then when it moved, I decided it was likely a mink. When we were first here there was a carcass in the road that I was certain was a mink. This was a very dark brown and about 18" long with about a 6 or 8" tail. I don't know if we'll see it again, but it was fun!

We honor all veterans who have protected our freedoms!!

"Our young friends -- yes, young friends, for in our hearts you will always be young, full of the love that is youth, love of life, love of joy, love of country -- you fought for your country and for its safety and for the freedom of others with strength and courage. We love you for it. We honor you. And we have faith that, as He does all His sacred children, the Lord will bless you and keep you, the Lord will make His face to shine upon you and give you peace, now and forever more.” ~Note from Ronald and Nancy Reagan, left at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, Veterans Day, 1988

Spring is here. Take time to enjoy the beauty of creation, from the unfurling of fern leaves to the striking colors of flowers. And with stay-at-home, we really can't say we don't have time!

In memory of Mary, July 6, 1923 - May 8, 2020. Mary was a quiet woman with an interesting life and interesting stories, once she got to know you and when you were patient enough to draw them out. She lived with us 3 days shy of 3 years. She had been ready to join her husband since he passed seven years ago. She is the first resident whose life ended in our home. She was a woman of faith and we know she is in glory with her savior. She will be missed. God bless her memory and God's peace and comfort to her family.

Spring has arrived here in Indy - in fact, the many of the redbud trees are past their peak. And I may be pushing it, but got 40 tomato plants in on May 1st, as well as seeds in the ground for cucumbers, beans, peas, carrots and radishes. We are supposed to get much cooler weather next week, so we'll find out whether it was a mistake.

We had a Rose Breasted Grosbeak on our feeder this morning, but wouldn't you know it, after getting the camera, it wouldn't turn for me to get a good picture of its bright rose breast!

Stay-at-home made celebrating 101 more subdued than 100 (plus it is hard to find party favors for 101), but we where honored to celebrate 101 with this wonderful lady! And she had 6 or 7 families well-wishing through her window throughout the day! God Bless her and her loved ones!

Asking residents about their concerns about the coronavirus, they said they they feel safe here. With a small group of residents, and families who are all very sensitive to their vulnerability, they don't feel there will be much risk of exposure.
