If youâve ever had pain along the front of your lower leg or even into your big toe, it might not actually be coming from the toe itself. Sometimes that discomfort is referred from a muscle in the lower leg called the tibialis anteriorâa muscle that works hard every time you walk, run, climb stairs, or lift your foot.
When that muscle gets overworked, it can start to feel tight and irritated, and in some cases it contributes to what people commonly call shin splints.
In this video, I demonstrate a simple technique using a lacrosse ball to help work through that muscle. Spending about 30â60 seconds rolling the area while gently moving your foot up and down can help stimulate the tissue and improve how it tolerates daily activity.
Small routines like this, done consistently, can sometimes make a noticeable difference in how your legs feel during everyday movement.
