Neurohope Extended physical rehabilitation and fitness center for people living with paralysis
www.neurohopewellness.org

Recovery from neurologic injury is incredibly slow. Even the most incomplete SCI may take months or years of rehabilitation.

- Insurance does not provide a continuum of care. The injured are often discharged from rehabilitation hospitals weeks after injury, during the critical time they need therapy the most.

- Outpatient visits are few and far between. Recovery requires regular, repetitive access to therapy in order to promote neuroplasticity (the nervous system's attempt to re-wire after injury). The limited number of outpatient therapy visits provided by insurance are insufficient.

- Disabled individuals living with paralysis in Indiana are deprived of the resources they need for health and well-being (to improve circulation, muscle and bone density, pressure sores, and more). NeuroHope vision will provide the resources to maximize recovery for the recently injured, and offer specialized wellness programs for those already living with paralysis.

Long-time NeuroHope patient Leslie Fuller was 1 of 20 subjects selected for NerveGen Pharmaceuticals clinical study of their NVG-291 drug, an injection aimed to help regenerate the nervous system after spinal cord injury.

We welcomed NerveGen Founder Dr Brad Lang, and Health Reporter Katharin Czink to the clinic to cover Leslie’s progress after her injection , and to learn about the future of NVG-291.

The drug works by blocking certain proteins that prevent nerve cells from growing and healing.

Clinical trials show that the many people with chronic spinal cord injury who received NVG-291 in the study, including Leslie , experienced motor and sensory improvements.

Leslie moved from ASIA C to an ASIA D during the trial and also reports improvements in thermoregulation & sense of smell!

There is still much to be learned about NVG-291, its efficacy, and when it may be available for public use.

WGN’s story coming soon, stay tuned!

Tomorrow is ! We continue the countdown today with Adam Cobb’s story: A vibrant Purdue University student, Adam embodies the power of perseverance. Meeting him today, you would never guess that months ago, he was fighting for his life.

On March 1, Adam was struck by a car while crossing the street near Purdue’s campus. He remembers nothing of the accident, but the consequences were devastating: a traumatic brain injury ( ), multiple intercapsular hemorrhages, and little hope.

After 20 days in a coma, Adam began a long road back—first at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), where intensive therapy helped him walk again with minimal assistance. But Adam wasn’t content to stop there. Determined to push beyond expectations, he set his sights on returning to Purdue. Unfortunately, like many neurological injury survivors, his insurance-covered PT visits ran out just as he was making major progress.

Thanks to the donors and supporters that make our extended care programs possible, Adam found the bridge he needed to continue therapy at the DRIVEN NeuroRecovery Center powered by NeuroHope during the critical months after his injury. Here, he’s been working tirelessly toward his goals. One milestone has been especially meaningful: relearning to dribble a basketball. “At first, I couldn’t dribble at all,” Adam said. “And now I can do over 100 dribbles!” For a right-handed player recovering from a left-side brain injury, this achievement reflects extraordinary dedication.

Today, Adam is back on campus part-time, and his work at NeuroHope continues!

Our work to serve hundreds of patients like Adam continues thanks to supporters that make our affordable, extended care programs possible. We hope you’ll consider making a donation tomorrow to help us reach our $5,000 Giving Tuesday Goal!
