We had the pleasure of welcoming community guests for our Dine & Learn event, focused on everyday safety and awareness.

A big thank you to Janice McHenry for leading such an informative session and for the support from the Attorney General’s Office. We had great conversations around recognizing common scams and protecting personal information—plus enjoyed a delicious lunch together!

This week's Resident Spotlight is Louise Hass!
Louise says when she saw the built-in bookcase in the apartment she was touring, she knew the Forum was the right place for her! Louise eventually moved into that apartment and now calls it her home. Though she never cooks, her kitchen pantry provides six additional shelves for books. If you haven’t guessed it by now, Louise has quite a love for reading and an impressive collection of books to match.

As a lifelong member of the Bronte Society, she maintains two shelves devoted to books about the Bronte family. She has visited the Bronte home in Haworth, England twice.
Helping at the Forum library is one of her favorite activities.

When Louise was in college, she worked during the summers at Zion National Park in Utah and Grand Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Louise spent a lot of time hiking through these parks. In 1960, she climbed Long’s Peak in Colorado which included a 14-mile walk plus a 2-mile climb with no sleep the night before.

Louise is very family-oriented and treasures moments with her daughter and son-in-law, her 3 adult grandchildren and adorable great-grandson.

One of the things Louise appreciates about the Forum is how kind and welcoming everyone was to her when she moved in. It corresponded to a verse by poet Alice Cary that she has cherished since childhood: “True worth is in being, not seeming. In doing, each day as that goes by, some little good, not in dreaming of great things to do by and by. For whatever, men say in their blindness, and in spite of the fancies of youth, there is nothing so kingly as kindness and nothing so royal as truth”.

Margaret Miller is the Forum's first member of our Resident Spotlight Series, where we celebrate our inspiring residents who make Tutera Senior Living home! Let's learn a bit about this special lady!

Today, when Margaret speaks of "home," she says it is her apartment. She has the things she needs here at the Forum, and she is very grateful she doesn't have to cook!

Margaret takes pleasure in being creative. She has always loved sewing—making casual and formal garments and draperies. She made her first dress for herself between the third and fourth grades and has sewn ever since. As you can see from the photos, Margaret is in the process of making an amazing quilt from her late husband's neck ties! WOW! Another creative hobby she has is Brazilian dimensional embroidery, a beautiful, textured style of needlework known for its raised 3D designs. You will catch her on most Saturday mornings working on her embroidery with other Forum artists in our "Artist's Corner" activity.

Family is very important to Margaret, and she is very proud of her sons and what they have accomplished. She says each has gone in a different path but has been successful in their choices. She also enjoys her granddaughters.

If Margaret had a motto for her life, she feels it would be "Be kind to everyone; show them love and respect."

Thank you, Margaret, for taking the time to share a bit about yourself. We are lucky to have you at the Forum!!
