👀 Using a ni**le shield? Here’s something most parents aren’t told.

Ni**le shields can be a really helpful breastfeeding tool for some families. But like many tools in the newborn stage, they work best when parents know a few important things.

✨ They’re sometimes used when:👶 baby is having trouble latching or has oral dysfunction 💫 ni**les are flat or inverted🐣 baby is premature or very sleepy💔 ni**les are very sore or healing

⚠️ Something many parents aren’t told:Sometimes a ni**le shield can reduce how much milk baby removes from the breast.

Since milk supply works on supply and demand, if milk isn’t removed well, it can sometimes affect supply over time. 🌿

💡 That’s why lactation consultants may suggest:⚖️ keeping an eye on baby’s weight gain👂 watching for active swallowing during feeds🍼 occasionally pumping after feeds if milk transfer is low

Ni**le shields aren’t “bad.”They’re simply a tool and tools work best with a little support and a plan.

If you’re using one, you’re not doing anything wrong. Many families use them temporarily while breastfeeding improves.

📌 Save this post if you’re using a ni**le shield or supporting someone who is.

✨ An Irish Blessing for Your Breastfeeding Journey ✨

May the path of motherhood rise gently to meet you,
May strength and support be always at your back
May warmth and love surround you and your baby
And may each feeding bring comfort, connection, and peace
May the hard moments soften with grace
And the sweet moments linger a little longer
And until you feel fully at home in this journey
May you and your baby be held in steady, loving hands

💛 Motherhood can be beautiful, messy, challenging, and full of love; all at once! This blessing is a little reminder that you are not alone on your breastfeeding journey.

With so many new followers, I thought I'd reintroduce myself! Welcome!

✨ Hi, I’m Katie Coffey and I'm so glad you’re here ✨

I’m a Registered Nurse and IBCLC based in Indianapolis, and it truly means so much to be a small part of your motherhood journey 🤍

I’ve been a nurse since 2011, with experience in areas like Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cardiac Outpatient, and infant wellness. In 2022, I became a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, and in 2024, I earned my IBCLC certification; however my heart for this work really began with my own story!

Breastfeeding my first baby came with its own learning curve, but with my second, I experienced intense latching pain and didn’t know where to turn. When I faced more challenges with my third, I finally found lactation support. It completely changed everything for me! I felt seen, empowered, and supported in a way I didn’t even realize I needed. That experience is what led me here 🤍

Now, I’m so passionate about walking alongside other moms; helping you understand what’s normal, supporting you through the hard moments, and encouraging you as you reach your feeding goals! You don’t have to figure this out alone.

Outside of work, I’m with my husband Chad of 10+ years and our four sweet kiddos, usually attending sporting events, outside, doing yoga, sneaking in a good book, or dancing around the house ✨

It’s truly an honor to support you and your baby 🤍

📸 Shoutout to the incredibly talented for capturing these beautiful headshots, and to for the amazing location and cozy vibe!
