It's finally here! The RESEARCH RETREAT! Join us on the east side of the county fairgrounds for a time to research information about your ancestors or events and places in Warren County. Or just come and see what's available in our research Library Saturday May 18 - 1:00-8:00!

Senior Division 61: Heirlooms and Artifacts
1 Book (published, not a genealogical book)
2 Piece of Glassware or China
3 Small Household Item or Tool
4 Needlework Item
5 Personal Item (example: Small piece of silver or jewelry, etc.)
6 Small Toy
7 Military Memorabilia (clothing)
8 Organization/Political Memorabilia
9 Advertisement Items
10 Bible, Other Religious Item or Bible Records
11 A simple display of artifacts with a genealogical theme (souvenirs, documents, keepsakes, etc., ex: military collection, school, religious
collection or items from multiple divisions.)
12 Item of Interest (greeting cards, clippings, postcards, etc.)

You don’t have to be a genealogist to enter in the genealogy classes at the Warren County Fair. Come to the Research Retreat on May 18 for more information. If you love history here are some ideas for exhibits:
1. Create an historical poster about a lost craft or skill or custom. Or a poster about an Iowa town or organization or event.
2. Photograph of early life in Iowa.
3. Poster, report, picture or item depicting an Iowa natural resource
4. Story about a person significant to Warren County history. (Written by the exhibitor)
5. Document connected to Warren County History.

It's time to start planning for the Warren County Fair. The best place to start is the Research Retreat at the Historical Society on May 18. At 2:00 that day Carla Anders, superintendent of the genealogy fair exhibits will be at the museum to answer questions and help with preparation of your exhibits. for the next few weeks I will be posting suggestions for entries. May 18, would be a good afternoon to spend time researching. Here are some examples of photos you could enter.
1 Ancestral Portrait or Photo (only one photograph, one or two people)
2 Family Group Photo (only one photograph)
3 Ancestral Home, Barn or Homestead Photograph
4 Pictorial Family History Poster or Display Board
5 Family Photo Album
6 Ancestral Church or School Building Photo
7 Military Photo
8 Wedding/Anniversary Photo
9 Generation Photo (four or more)
10 Political Photo
11 Organization Photo
12 Gravestone/Headstone Photo
13 Any Miscellaneous Photograph that doesn’t fit above classes (sports teams, etc.)

Mark your calendars. Saturday May 18, Research Retreat. Come search for answers to questions you have about Indianola and Warren County. This will also be a chance to get information about County Fair. The Genealogy Division has added classes that involve History as well as Genealogy. Location: Warren County Historical Museum.
