Five signs you're doing well as a Pennsylvanian:

1. There’s a second fridge in the garage.
Not a fancy one. Just the old kitchen fridge that got “promoted” to garage duty and now holds Yuengling, venison, pierogies, and at least three mystery containers no one wants to open.

2. You own a snowblower that actually starts.
Not the hand-me-down from your uncle. A real one. Electric start. Heated grips if things are going really well.

3. Your porch furniture stays outside year-round… and you don’t care.
Because it’s the good plastic chairs. The thick ones. The kind that survive four winters, two thunderstorms, and one raccoon family.

4. There’s a freezer in the basement specifically for “meat.”
Half deer, half bulk Giant sale items, and one frozen ham from a holiday no one remembers.

5. You casually say “we’ll just take the Turnpike” without checking the toll first.
That’s when everyone knows you’ve reached a certain level of financial stability in Pennsylvania.

Some of you will remember this like it was yesterday.

On this day in 1993, the Pittsburgh region was absolutely buried under 23.6 inches of snow, the largest single-day snowfall in Pittsburgh history during the legendary Blizzard of ’93.

Roads were shut down. Schools were closed. People were digging out for days. And just about every kid in Western Pennsylvania thought it was the greatest snow day ever.
