We’re so excited to now offer in-home EKGs for athletes and teens! ☀️

With a new Florida law (the “Second Chance Act”) taking effect July 1, 2026, many high school athletes will be required to have at least one EKG before participating in school sports.
⠀
But beyond the requirement, this matters.
⠀
Some underlying heart conditions have no symptoms, even in healthy, active kids. In many cases, the first sign can occur during sports. Early screening can help detect potential risks and provide peace of mind for families.

An EKG is a simple, non-invasive test that can identify concerns that may not be picked up on a routine physical exam alone.
⠀
We’ve made this process easy and accessible:

- Add an EKG to your sports physical (we do both in-home!)
- OR book a standalone EKG if your child already had their physical
- OR if your pediatrician has ordered an EKG — we can complete it for you
- OR if you simply want screening for your athlete (school, club, or recreational sports)

I had the opportunity to visit Ohana Institute where we read a book about going to the doctor, talked about ways to stay healthy during sick season, and explored some real medical tools together. The kids got to listen to their own heartbeats, check out a stethoscope, and learn that doctor visits don’t have to be scary.

There’s something really special about helping kids feel comfortable, curious, and confident about their health.

Thank you to the wonderful teachers and the sweetest group of kids for welcoming me. 💛

We are SO excited to officially introduce the newest Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Salt & Sun Pediatrics : Barbie Baker, PNP-PC ☀️

With 18 years of nursing experience and 12 years as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Barbie brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and dedication to the families she serves. She began her career in the NICU caring for premature and medically fragile infants before transitioning into primary care pediatrics, where she has spent years building meaningful relationships with children from birth through adolescence.

Barbie is a nationally certified Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and earned her graduate degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Her greatest joy is watching her patients grow from newborn to teenage milestones and partnering with families every step of the way.

Originally from North Carolina, Barbie recently relocated to Florida as part of a military move. She and her husband (and their sweet pup, Rusty 🐾) are loving life along the Emerald Coast and we are beyond grateful she chose to join Salt & Sun.

Just a quick heads up for all my parents—here’s what we’re currently seeing across the country, based on the latest infection trends from HealthTrackRx. 💛

These comprehensive respiratory PCR panels can be done right in your home, with results in about 24 hours. They’re especially helpful when rapid tests are negative, but symptoms are still pointing to something more.

My favorite part? These panels can clearly differentiate viral vs. bacterial infections, which helps avoid unnecessary antibiotics and gives us real answers.
